My router is 6 years old now and I pretty sure I should get a new one but I don`t know what to look for in a router. One of the main reasonses I want a new router is because I currently have 1.5mbps down and 50mbps up and i`m hoping that a new router can help my mbps download to go higher and Secondly when i`m playing cs go (counter strike global offensive) it randomly freezes for 2-5 secondes in game. I know that the cause is my slow internet because when I play cs go ON THE SAME pc at my friends that as 95mbps down cs go does not freeze, This is very frustrating for me. There is no other option for higher internet where I live (I live deep in the woods). The only other option that I thought of was satellite internet but that is no good for online play because of the 500ms ping. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

My specs are:
CPU-i7 4790k
Motherboard-MSI Gaming 5
RAM-crucial baliastix tracer 8gb-1866hz-cas 9
GPU-MSI GTX 970
Case-Corsair 780t
Storage-A-DATA SX9000 and a 2tb Toshiba 7200rpm
PSU XFX | P1-650B-BEFX 650W R
Operating-System Windows 8.1
(custom Build pc)

1. Because they don't know what they are doing
or
2. Because their current router is actually lacking in some fashion.

I recently changed mine.
Verizon FiOS, 50/50 Mbps plan. Wired, it worked fine. Wireless, it seemed to be limited to 20/20.
Upon investigation, that particular router from Verizon was in fact limited to 20/20 for the wireless portion.

And this was confirmed by the Verizon installer guy when I moved houses and had a new install.
But my wireless use was very small, so I didn't worry about it too much.
And then they had a much better router for sale cheap.

And it does actually do the wireless much, much...
Hi as per your mentioned speeds it seems highly unlike that the upload speed is higher than the download.
I suggest you try to reset your router settings and try again. (there may have been some download limits set)
Also check for any limits set within your connection (wired or wireless whichever you use)
Try contacting your ISP if its something from their side.

I suggest this coz this proportion of speeds is wrong. The download speed is much higher that upload (usually UP is 1/4th of DWN)
The reset should solve your issue else the ISP Once they have assured you its not from their end, then you can buy a new one. (If its an ISP issue then the new one will have same issue)

Sorry 0.50mbps!!! http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4321567857

So... a new router won`t change any thing? because I`ve got the best plan for internet for where I live. :/

Okay well thanks for clearing things up a bit but why would some change there router in the first place?

And it does actually do the wireless much, much faster. Wired performance is exactly the same.
Wasn't a critical change, but it was cheap, so I went for it.

Very, very rarely will a router change affect speed when you are wired to the router.
If wireless, changing the location of the router (for free) is usually the best thing to try first.

"My router sucks! What new one should I buy?"
...can be usually answered with "Move your router (or PC), and/or connect via Cat5e instead of WiFi"
