I plan to build a mid-range gaming PC that will be used for both gaming and drone video editing (drone is 4K video and photo capable if it helps). Right now, I intend to game at 1440p with a refresh rate capability of 144Hz or higher and at least a 27-inch display. I will use a single monitor for gaming and possibly two identical monitors for the video editing (for basic editing and not Hollywood level editing). I am leaning toward a Freesync gaming monitor, but I am uncertain on whether I should go with Freesync Basic, Premium, or Premium Pro. Regardless of the Freesync tier recommended, I plan to get a display with G-Sync compatibility. I intend to play mainly single-player games like the remastered versions of Dark Forces and the Crysis and Mass Effect trilogies. It is also possible I will play multi-player games like Star Wars the Old Republic, the rebooted Battlefront series, or even Call of Duty and Battlefield. At the time of this writing, I am waiting for both the Nvidia RTX 5070/5070 Ti and Radeon RX 9070/9070 XT GPUs to be released before I make a decision on which of the mentioned GPUs to purchase. I have looked at prices on pcpartpicker.com for the three freesync tiered monitors, which are all G-Sync compatible, and their starting prices range between $150 and $200. My budget for each monitor is up to $250, but I wish to avoid spending money on features that are unnecessary for my gaming and video editing needs. Which AMD Freesync tier should I go with?

Thanks.

For your 1440p 144Hz+ gaming and 4K drone video editing, FreeSync Premium is the best choice. It offers LFC (Low Framerate Compensation), which helps in games with fluctuating FPS and supports at least 120Hz at 1080p, ensuring smooth gameplay. FreeSync Premium Pro mainly benefits HDR gaming, which isn't necessary unless you're focused on high-end HDR content. Since all your choices are G-Sync compatible, FreeSync Premium provides the best balance of price and performance without unnecessary features.
