Ok so here is my problem and I wanted to see what you guys think. Right now I have a Radeon 6970. I like it but it is non reference so it can't fit a water block which is something I really wanted to try out. My question is should I get a another 6970 that will fit a waterblock or should I just wait not for the 7XXX series to come out? Also is there any idea of a release date and possible price list for the 7XXX cards?

Solution
Release date for 7x series cards is probably end of this year - early next year so don't hold you breath.

Even when the 7x series come out - they probably won't be much faster than the 6x series anyways.

What is your total system specifications (including PSU) and what resolution do you game at?

5 to 6 wasn't a node change though. They were both 40nm, which means you're just getting tweaks. 7 is a new 28nm mode.

Plus they had to do a last minute spin to account for not moving from 40nm to 32nm. They were planning for a different design until the Fab's screwed it up for them.

How anyone can say that the next gen is going to be a small jump is delusional. If you're going AMD or Nvidia, both shall be a big jump in the next round and AMD will be the one releasing their products first.

Personally I find Nvidia's drivers to be very stable. Wouldn't worry about drivers with Nvidia, just their price's on certain level's of products.

I don't know what I'm going to do. Now I'm debating on wheather to get an AMD at all or just get an Nvidia. I read that Nvidia SLI is easier to set up where setting up the drivers for crossfire can sometimes be finiky and problomatic. I also read that Nvidia cards scale better in SLI then two AMD cards in Crossfire. The only thing I don't understand is how the Nvidia's are "faster". The AMD has a higer core clock vs the GTX.
