I currently have a gtx 660 windforce 2x, and I am thinking of sli-ing them. I have been thinking about doing this for a while but I am still unsure.

I currently have a 650w psu and a decent setup.

1) If I want to go sli-ing, would my psu support it?
2) Would there be a great gain from it?
3) Is there still microstuttering in games or has that been smoothed out with the gpu updates?
I may have more questions to ask, but I cannot think of any atm.

I apologise for not responding earlier, had a busy day.

PSU: is this http://www.standard.com.au/product-detail/hardware/inside-the-pc-laptop/power-supply-units/x-tec-classic-power-650w-power-supply-12cm-fan.aspx

So you're saying that a 650w psu isn't enough? What about the other parts of my pc, will it support the sli?

And would there be a great gain from sli and is there still microstuttering in games or has that been smoothed out with the gpu updates?
And also, would the mobo support sli?

Well, 600 watts is what is needed to support 660 SLI. I can't find any reviews on the power supply you own, so there's no telling the quality of the unit. It should work but as for longevity, don't know.

As for SLI performance gains and issues. There are gains from SLI in the 70-80% range. Microshutter is a hit or miss and game appear from one game but not in another.

You don't have to buy the exact same card. You only need to buy 660 GTX 2GB. The manufacturer does not affect compatibility.

There's only two that I could find, here's one of them.

I would also look into simply buying a new more powerful card. SLI might not be worth it considering you're 2 generations back now.

Sorry for the late response.

It's not that the 660 SLI is bad, it's that there are better options. A single card is always the best solution. If your budget can only afford the second 660, then run with it. If you can spend more for a more powerful card, it doesn't make sense to hassle with SLI.

AMD probably will come up with new GPU around Q2 (or late Q1). nvidia probably will come up with new series a quarter after AMD. if you don't really need the performance now then wait.

The next gen Nvidia is here already. That's the 900 series. Try to go for a 970 GTX. If you don't want that, you'll have to wait until Q2 for AMD's r9 300 series. I would wait just a little while to see what AMD has to offer with their new GPUs.

I meant the next one 😛
I was thinking of waiting for amds r9 300 series but i wanted to get another card just so i can get some boost.
Unfortunately i can't find the card anywhere.

So i should wait for amd's r9 300 series?

Well, if you're waiting for Nvidia's next gen (we'll call it the 1000 GTX) you'll be waiting for probably more than a year.

I would wait until AMD releases the 300 series which should be soon.

nvidia have come up with new series each year. i'm sure they will got something new this year. and many believe that GM204 is not nvidia final chip in maxwell lineup

Well, Nvidia has already announced the successor to Maxwell. Pascal is due in 2016. The 700 series was released in May 2013 but was fully released in October because of delays. The 900 series was released in September. Neither you nor I know if Nvidia is going to release another GPU this year or simply release Pascal early 2016.

we even know nvidia will release Volta sometime in 2017-2018 time frame. the two supercomputer win they had recently will be based on Volta. yes most of maxwell line up come up from 900 series but it doesn't mean the next series must be Pascal. some people probably thinking since 900 series is maxwell then the next series must be pascal. since Pascal won't hit until 2016 then nvidia will not going to release anything in 2015. nvidia traditionally will come up with their 550mm2 "monster" chip with every major architecture change. the GM204 chip inside 980 actual size was 398mm2. so nvidia still have a room for a bigger chip based on Maxwell architecture. i can be wrong but it is unlikely that nvidia will let AMD new R 300 series go unanswered for the whole 2015

well they are releasing the titan x (was it the titan x?) sometime this year i believe. I highly doubt ill be able to afford it 😛
ill most likely go with amd when it releases, if the price is good, why should i fork out $250-300 gtx 960, its too expensives with price/performance ratio for me 😛

titan was not really targeted towards gamer. the card is more like semi pro card. titan x will have 12GB. the real gamer version (like GTX780Ti) will most likely end up with 6GB version. but most likely it won't come out until AMD release their R 300 series.
