780TI is the better GPU, I'd look at the Asus CU model....in general the 780TI offers better performance, runs cooler and nVidia has the better drivers

If one has a weaker CPU it can bottleneck either of these CPUs, but I've recently put these same GPUs in rigs for folks that are waiting for the Haswell refresh Z97 and K models and the nVidia drivers work better with with the underpowered CPUs, they seem to level the load better, plus you also have the superior performance of the 780TI
his most probable better choice is the 780Ti if he doesn't mind the price difference, that's true, but if i recall correctly, especially on BF4, a weak CPU will have benefit out of Mantle API
780TI is better overall but if you have a really good cooler then you can overclock the r9 290x. I think the r9 290 is a better choice because the fps difference between x and non x is literally 5fps
