I was thinking of getting Titanfall on release, if I decide to get the disc version will I still need to download the game like with the download?

I am quite new to PC gaming and just need help with this question.

Thanks.

Solution
if you believe in supporting your local high street then yeah buy the disk.
if not see if you can get it on cheap download.
the game will install off the disk. although it will contact its home server to validate and allow you to setup your game account.
after it installs the software it may need to update. just let it and then have fun.

disks are cheaper than direct to drive downloads and i still like having something in my hand in return for my money.

If you get the disc version, you will install the game using the disc but will still have to go through your Origin account to play and update the game. The game will almost certainly require an update immediately at launch and will also require you to setup an Origin account (if you don't already have one). The game license will then be locked to your Origin account.

erm how much is bf4 selling for on origin? £54.99 ... cheaper on steam lol. no there not. they tempt you with lots of cheap offerings and 1s every 3 months give away real bargains for a week. so you have to wait 3-5 months to pick up the AAA games at cheaper than high street prices.

yes its more convenient but not always best.

i recommend you stick with companies that trade in your own currency as theres less chance of your key being region locked. i see steam is doing more of this and possibly doing it retroactively, so games you may have had work, stop for no apparent reason. i dont think origin will be far behind.

Well.. just bought the game, and 3 DVDs follows, BUT are unable to install from disc. Only way to intall, is to log in to Origin, confirm the serialkey, then only option is to download the entire game of 50 GB.. So it is a waste of DVDs -.-

hmm... odd that. i bought all my battlefield games on disk. and installed them off the dvd including the 1s that need origin.
just install origin and run it, sign in with remember me ticked. exit orign in the task bar and then open the dvd. run the setup.exe and it should install off the disk. after a couple of mins the disk installer should open origin and continue installing off the disk.

When you buy a boxed copy do you need to have it in the disk tray every time you play the game or is it just a way to deliver the game files onto your hard drive?

No, you just need the disc to install the game. Once it's installed it will be linked to your Origin account.

I had this same issue, think I ended up downloading the files and it seemed to be going faster than my download speeds could possibly be, I did this once on my last windows install and it worked OK, but had to unpack the the audio files at least twice (think I've erased the memory of how many exactly as it was so painful). I'd try downloading the game to see if it skips major sections which it can load from the disc, I'm trying that again now on my new install.

There definitely is no option to install from disc, even loading the autorun.exe asks you to click continue, install Origin and download the game then, I had a nightmare, found out that I had to have Origin *not installed* before clicking continue, then it would install Origin and install the game, think I still had to click download though.

Just confirmed, well, for me at least, you have to have Origin not installed to install from disc, you don't have to restart if you need to uninstall Origin, but run the autorun when Origin is not installed and allow it to install Origin first (this may take a few minutes to load so if nothing happens straight away, be patient). Once Origin is installed it will prompt you to choose a language as if you're installing a new game and the next sections would be the installation of the game, it looks like a download when installing though, but you'll see the speed will be a lot higher than your download rates and your disc drive will be whirring, this install in a monster and took me about two-three hours first time, I expect the same again now.
