Should I go with a 1080p or 900p monitor?

Hi, I'm planning on getting a monitor for my PC soon.
Right now I have it hooked up to a 1080p TV in the living room with HDMI.
I know one of the best ways to improve FPS in gaming is to lower the resolution,
and since there's no way I'm getting a 720p display, would it be a good choice to
get a 1600x900p monitor instead of a 1080p one? I assume it would cost less.
Would I my performance benefit by at least 5fps as i have a lot of games that just won't
go above 55fps unless I play them on ugly mode (the lowest possible settings)?

for the money there are good 1080 monitors out there. i picked up an asus vc239 for little over 100 online great ips unit with bright screen with no backlight bleed. your better off going wiht 1080 unit. most of the under 1080 units now are 20 inch or less units or real cheap/bad units. it only take few seconds now with windows 10 to change down to lower res.

CPU: Athlon X4 860K
GPU: Radeon R7 370 2GB
RAM: 16GB DDR3

(I honestly forgot to list them when I finished writing the rest of the post...)
