Ive never overclocked a cpu before but ive got a 7 3700x and it seems pointless having the x if i dont overclock it right? Question is how much better would it make my pc in terms of gaming? 2070 super if anyone is wondering on the graphics card.

No, having an X Ryzen is not an invitation to OC, quite contrary. It's nothing like K for Intel processors.
An X in Ryzen just means that it will automatically boost higher than non-X model at right conditions (good MB and cooling).
It would make more sense to manually OC non-X model to approximate X model performance.

It ok to OC x version. If you have gold chip you can have some fun. For me my 3600x is so so ok it OC but would say maybe its the slightly below average but no bad. See some golden chip really get some fun OC. I get closer to stock all cores. Very happy with results though no complain. Just guess you probably not see so much differences. In cinebench I do see good improvement. Reality in games I like it really make no difference. Its been fun though. :)
