Should I or do I need to? Upgrade my GTX 960 for a GTX 1060 - Wow Player

Heys guys! First of all, I want to say you are awesome! I love reading the discussions.
Today, I need help deciding if I should upgrade my GPU!

So, I had a good year, got a better job and now I'm treating myself with a brand new gig - i7 7700k, asrock z270 fatal1ty, 16Gb G.skill Trident Z @ 3000Mhz.

The new setup hasn't arrived yet. But now I'm considering upgrading my graphics card, though I'm not sure if it's worth it. Parts are really expensive here, especially GPUs. I'm from Brazil, and it can go up to 4 month's worth of work (considering a minimum wage job).

I currently have an Asus GTX 960 OC Turbo, I play mostly WoW @ 1080p - I'm a mythic raider and my old gig (i5 3570k + asrock z77 performance + 8 Gbs DDR3) was suffering amidst the chaos with 20 other toons shooting stuff around). I do hope the upgrade will solve it though.

I will appreciate another WoW player's opinion since this game runs weird! - and eventually I'll be playing (rarely) some other games like some Assassins creed, GTA V and CSGO.

I could get the GTX 1060 (trading it for my old gig, so no investment there) and maybe, with a considerable effort, I could save some money and get the GTX 1070 (probably by the end of July).

But, is it worth it? Will I need a better GPU to play WoW with that setup?

Cant really speak for WoW as I dont play it, but the 1060 is a LOT better than the 960.

The i7-7700K was a waste of money if you play WoW. You should have gotten an i5-7600K and paired it with the GTX 1070. The 960 / 1060 with an i7-7700K is an extreme bottleneck, the CPU would not be able to reach its full potential. A good pair would be:

1. i7-7700K with 1080 / 1080Ti
2. i5-7600K with 1070
3. i5-7500 with 1060 6Gb / 1060 3Gb
4. i3 7100 with 1050Ti / 1050

If you have the chance, get a discounted 1080. It is light years ahead of the 1060 in terms of performance. If you also get the chance, STOP THE SHIPMENT OF THE i7-7700K! Get the i5-7600K instead and spend the saved money on a 1070! Good luck with the build.

I do plan on upgrading de GPU this year. I'll keep it in mind to go for a 1080 when I have the chance. Right now they are extremely pricey (REALLY) and WAY over my budget.

I'm running with a GTX 970 at the moment ("borrowed" from my husband) - but since someone offered me a 1060, the doubt came.

I'd like to get the best of the best (if I can pay) when I'm upgrading, and I wanted the most future-proof I could get.
That's why I went for the i7 7700k, I usually play with a lot going on in the background/second screen and I like to record my guild's attempts and sometimes streaming it so our replace players can see our progress - And I wasn't able to do that anymore after Legion expansion came. Of course, maybe I it is wasted right now, but since I was gonna spend on something that I won't be upgrading in the next 5 to 6 years, I thought that was the best choice.

I upgrade GPUs more frequently, tho.

Oh, and cancelling is not an option, not an easy one at least. It would be a painful process to cancel.
Living in Brazil makes everything harder and pricier.

The 1060 will work just fine with the 7700k and is still a great GPU.

Thanks for clarifying your situation. For streaming, the i7-7700K was not, again, the best choice due to only having 4 cores. A six core would have been a better choice or even an 8 core. Once again, a great choice would have been a Ryzen 7 1700, due to streaming. The i7-7700K is good enough for it though, and will definitely not be a slouch. Keep your 960 or 970 for now, don't upgrade. Wait for the cash to come in and save up for a 1080. Good luck!
