Question Should I repaste my rtx 3080

Hi, All,

My Rtx 3080 Waterforce has been sitting in its box, unopened for at least 8 years. Should I remove and reapply thermal paste before I put it into service? Incredibly easier to do it before it is put into use than afterwards.....of course easier still not to have to do it at all!

Please advise, and,

wouldn't do anything before the first test, otherwise you won't be able to verify,if something is going wrong, if it was before or after the repaste.

Because I bought it pre-retirement when I had money but no time....now I have time to put it into service.

With the strangeness of video card prices he likely could sell it for almost what he paid, unless he paid scalper prices during covid. The card can't be 8yrs old if it is a 3080 the very first ones came out in sept of 2020.

Repasting is pointless unless you know that your processor is severely overheating and that it's likely down to the thermal paste. Otherwise at best you'll knock a degree or three off the peak temperature, while at worst the forum has plenty of threads by people who were repasting just because it sounded like a good idea and damaged something in the process of doing it.
