Should i return my 980 ti for a model that overclocks better?

I have and evga EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti ACX SC+ ACX 2.0+ with a 65.7 asic

The highest oc i can get that doesnt cause crashing or other issues is 1400/7700, any higher regardless of power limit or +mv adjustment has issues (running 110 power no extra core +mv with this oc now)

temps on the card now stay sub 60, so it shouldnt be heat limited

I got an amazon warehouse deal, card was mint for $600 and i have until august 6th to iniate a return.

I am wondering if its worth the trouble to get a diff card, or if i would even notice the different if the card was at 1500/8000

I was thinking if i returned my card i would get to zotac edition with built in water block or the gigabyte g1 edition 980 ti

i would say that if you can return go for it.. if its not too hectic for you. Zotac and Gigabyte G1 are both amazing cards... Ofcourse Evga is right up there. But personally for overclocking i will go for G1.

The zotac is enticing because it has a built in waterblock, and I plan to do custom loop for my entire system eventually, however like you said the g1 is probably the better overclocking card with 2x8 power and custom pcb (which not sure if there will be waterblocks for it, honestly havent even looked)

Would there be a noticeable difference fps wise going from 1400/7700 to 1500/8000 or beyond?

Yeah you could gain 5-10 fps or even more if the overclock is stable.

My opinion... Absolutely not.
The card comes with a factory warranted overclock and a well binned chip.
At 1440P you will not notice any difference.
Plus, EVGA has excellent USA support.

For me its not worth the hassle but if you are thinking about it enough to create a thread then return it and live with no regrets.

I run 1440p with an oc'ed 970 without much issue. I'm not even in the same league as you and I am satisfied; to each his own of course but that is my 2 cents...

Oh BTW my Zotac 970 overclocks to high hell!

How high any part can overclock is determined by the quality of the individual sample.
You could actually do worse by changing.
The only guarantee is what the factory overclock promises.

In 1440P, it probably wont matter because the fps is high enough but if you run 4k, it would be worth it...those extra 5-10 or more can help since your fps is already low to begin with, especially like witcher3, crysis3, metro last light, gta v...those games, most of the others run pretty well above 60FPS in 4k so it wont matter that much.

Depends if you want to go through the process, I suppose.
