Hi all, i have a 4 TB WD HDD that's 226 days old so still in warranty.
HDTune Pro shows 2 current pending sectors (aka bad sectors and in health status it shows warrning).
Here's what Harddisk sentinel says:
The drive found 2 bad sectors during its self test.
There are 2 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
At this point, warranty replacement of the disk is not yet possible, only if the health drops further.
It is recommended to examine the log of the disk regularly. All new problems found will be logged there.

It has lot of data on it so moving it somewhere else would be pain and time consuming in order to send it for RMA so i don't wanna do it unless i really have it.

Worth mentioning is that we only receive 10 months warranty here on mechanical hard drives so this will be out of warranty in about couple of months.

EDIT: On a side note i have another WD My Book essential 1 TB external drive which has about 389 pending sectors and windows refuse to open it asking me to format the drive. Its over 7 years old so safe to assume that drive is Kaput and there is no possibility of recovering data without professional help. Should i perform my surgery on it and break open the case and try to work with it? Data on it is not really important as i already have it in cloud storage.

That application seems over 10 years old and even have an image for floppy use (who use floppies these days?). Any suggestion which file to download?
Seems to me its command line only without any GUI

Will it involve full formating the drive or can this tool overwrite only pending sectors?
Because if it involves full formatting aka 0 fill then i would rather just backup the data somewhere else and RMA the drive. A full format on a 4 TB drive is going to take ALOT of time.

I am in the process of transferring data to different drive and just hit an unreadable error on one file. I guess this pretty much ensures that some sectors on the tape are corrupt. I rechecked disk status via HDTune Pro and the pending sector count has increased to 3 from 2.

I should better backup my data and RMA this disk fast.
