Should I upgrade CPU or GPU first

So as of now, I own a G4560 + gtx 1050 oc edition, 8gb of ram. Next summer I plan to work for a month and earn about 300eur. I have now a 300w psu (I bought the pc prebuilt and yes, I'm indeed aware of the wattage of this psu) but I'm planning on upgrading it in the coming month.

My initial plan was to upgrade to i5-7600k, but I've seen people in the forums saying that the cooler I have now (g4560 stock cooler) will not suffice, so I need to throw in the price of a new cooler in there as well. The i5-7600k costs around 240eur in my country + I need a solid cooler but at the lowest price possible. I'm also DEFINITELY planning on overclocking it.

So which one should I upgrade first, because my budget most likely won't stretch that far to upgrade both at the same time.

Solution

You can see it in any benchmarking program like cpu-z

the cpu and GPU have to be near each other and remember the cpu feeds the GPU so the cpu needs to have enough power to feed the gpu

i cant answer without some info. so basically the CPU feeds the GPU info. If the cpu is @ 50% utilization/power but the gpu is @ 100% utilization/power then you obviously need to upgrade the gpu cuz the cpu still has 50% left. but if its the opposite then you need to upgrage the CPU. I hope you understand what i mean. if you dont, feel free to tell me so i can explain more

The cpu is usually running at like 80% in games, sometimes over that. Where and what do I need to see the usage of the gpu?

You're talking about a bottleneck. However, none exists in this set up. The G4560 is plenty powerful to drive the 1050.

To get the best performance upgrade for gaming, then upgrade the GPU in this instance. You could get a 1050ti, which is approx 20% faster than the 1050. Or the gtx1060 (6gb flavour) which is about 40% faster than the 1050ti.

You will get less of a performance increase with a new CPU than a new GPU in this instance (for gaming)

That needs a "Z170/Z270" chipset motherboard too so if you don't have that don't bother. I'd rather look at a 7700 then.

I agree on the above said by keith12 and would say to get a gtx 1060 first. If budget allows ...
