I have an AMD Ryzen 7 3700 CPU with 16GB DDR 4 RAM and 4070 rtx super videocard, 850 watt PSU with windows 10

I've been thinking about upgrading to a Ryzen 7800x3d and 32GB DDR5 RAM.

I can get a CPU mobo combo for about $600 from Amazon and I can just buy the RAM separate

is it a bad time to buy? I think the 7800x3d has been around for awhile now, with newer faster CPUs around the corner

I mainly play games, Netflix, Youtube, etc..

So far AMD haven't announced the x3d versions of the 9000 series so it could be they will try to sell the X versions before releasing the x3d ones. I could be wrong... either way they haven't even announced a 9800 yet so...

In other words, the price isn't likely to drop just yet. Once its successor is out, it might.

its up to you. I am going to wait and see what happens...
but then I am using a 5800x3d which isn't even one year old yet.

CPU+mobo for $600 seems very expensive.

You could replace your 16Gb RAM with a fast 32Gb DDR4 kit. They cost less and have lower latency.
DDR5 is not twice as fast nor twice as good. 2025 or 2026 may be the time to ditch DDR4 but right now, it's an excellent choice.
16Gb is too low today, unfortunately.

In the long run, an AM5 build would be a better investment. Pricy at the moment though.
