So I currently have a i7 3770k @ 4.2ghz and i bottleneck in a few games with a 980 ti. I was wondering if I should upgrade my cpu.

Choices- i7 7700k
ryzen 1700x
and 1800x

this is just for gaming. This is just an investment that suppose to last me atleast maybe 4 years

Yea I'll just go with the i7 7700k since selling everything I currently have would only cost maybe 200-300 dollars for the new build. I was also planning on selling my 980 ti for a 1080ti and I knew it was definitely going to bottleneck if i stayed with the 3770k.

I'm going to say no. The 3770k is still very competetive with the 980ti/games/the 6700/7700k. The price to completely rebuild your system would literally yield you like a 10% performance boost. Stick with your current i7 until it's not competitive anymore; at that point, there WILL be stuff worth making a jump to.

+ADrunkBunny My initial response is no. I read your original post and your subsequent responses to others. Your i7-3770k shouldn't bottleneck a GTX 980 Ti. Since it is, then something in your system is un-optimized. Download and run HWMonitor, play a game for ten minutes, and report your CPU temp. The stock base and boost clock is 3.5/3.9 GHz respectively. Also, what CPU cooler do you have installed?

When you say that you bottleneck in "a few games", which games are you talking about? What resolution? What is the CPU utilization, GPU utilization, and FPS that you're seeing? Your description is vague.

Important: You should not invest money into this system, until you find the cause of your CPU under-performing. After you respond back with that information, then I'd ask you to please list your full specs, and then we can get more granular with troubleshooting your issue.
