I have a gaming pc that has a 1060 6gb vram, 8gb ram, i-5 6600 and i am looking to upgrade it. I am already set on getting more and faster ram and I'm unsure what to upgrade in terms of my CPU. I was looking to upgrade my i-5 6600 (unoverclockable) to one of the coffee lake proccessers, the i-7 8700k in particular, however I don't know wether or not my gpu will be a bottleneck or wether or not the upgrade will even provide a significant difference in gaming performance. If you guys could please help me decide it would be much appreciated. I would also like to know wether or not air cooling will be sufficient in cooling a CPU with the performance of the i-7 8700k.

A few questions. First, what's the budget? Second, what types of games are you playing? Third, be aware that if you upgrade to an 8700k, you will need a new motherboard and if you're buying a whole new motherboard, there are better platforms to choose in 2019/2020.

I understand that i will have to buy a new motherboard for this and it's my fault i didn't mention this from the start. You mention that there are different and better options in terms of a CPU upgrade and i would like you to please list a few i can look into. The games I play are open world free-roam games and competetive shooters like: The Witcher 3 , GTA V, Red Dead 2, Rainbow 6 Seige just to name a few. I have heard that free-roam games are CPU intensive and that Rainbow 6 also relies on a good CPU too, which is why i wanted to upgrade in the first place. My budget is 350$ for CPU only but i am ok with going a bit over if the extra money is worth it.
