should i upgrade my fx 6100 6-core to an 8-core?

im running a fx 6100 and wondering if its worth while to upgrade to and 8 core

mb is msi 970a-g46 .... it says its am3+ but im not sure it will take a newer chip

also running a r9 280

yes it can update to 8 cores with bios update

Do not drop a 125w CPU into that motherboard. The VRMs on in it are junk and WILL throttle an 8-core 125 watt CPU. In fact, it may even blow the VRMs on a heavy load.

MSI should not be saying this board is OK for 125w CPUs.

probably safer to get FX-8370E

thoughts on why .. boards garbage, not cost effective ect?
