Hi I am using an amd fx 6100 from 2013. I have a Gigabyte 970a-ds3 rev 3.0 motherboard and 8 gb of ddr3 ram. I bought a GTX 960 in late 2015. The fx 6100 showing his age now and not performing well. And I am thinking to upgrade the CPU motherboard and Ram. But I am confused. I listed two cpu. Ryzen 3 1200 and intel i3 81000. So can you guys tell me is it worth upgrading? and which processor to buy. I also heard that the new 8th gen motherboard (non-z) are also coming in late march 2018.

For gaming, Intel CPUs still have an advantage over AMD. The Ryzen 1200 has been replaced with the 2200g. But I would still take the 8100 over the 2200g. Especially when the H series mobos are released. I am not trying to take anything away from what AMD has done, in multi threaded workloads, AMD is the clear winner. But gaming requires single threaded performance and Intel has a clear lead.

Honestly, You have a previous gen budget GPU and you will be replacing your budget CPU. You wont see a significant performance jump with either CPU processor because the GPU will hold you back some.

Games get better performance from a GPU than any other component. So upgrading to a new GPU may be a better option. The 1060 6gb will be a nice upgrade from your current 960. The 6100 will bottleneck it some in some titles, but I think you will get better framerates with a 6100/1060 than you will with a 8100 or 2200g/960. Then you could look at upgrading the CPU a later this year. Just a thought.

I lives in Kolkata India. I will use the pc mainly for gaming and browsing and little bit of photoshop work. Gaming is my main priority. My budget is very low . (20000 Indian rupees for the CPU Motherboard and RAM )

Now I am only want to upgrade the cpu. and I will upgrade the GPU later when nvidia launch their new line up. Can u post some links of the 8th Gen H series motherboards?

Overclock the 1200 as far as it will go on the stock AMD Wraith cooler which should be around 3.6ghz.

yeah it is good. but is it good for gaming compares to 8100?

do you know when the H series and B series motherboard will launch?

Here is the 2200g review from techpowerup.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Ryzen_3_2200G_Vega_8/14.html

They compared the 2200g stock and 2200g at 3.9ghz overclock with a lot of CPUs all paired with a 1080. So this test should strictly look at CPU performance apart from the GPU. Unfortunately, the 8100 was not on the list, but the 7500 and 7400 were included. There is very little difference between the 8100 and the 7500. The 7500 scored around 20% faster than the stock 2200g and 15% faster than the overclocked 2200g.

Considering the 8100 is only $10 more than the 2200g, to me it makes sense to go with the 8100. Granted mobos are higher until the "H" boards are released, buy you can get a cheap Z370 board for around $90. That is not much more than the generic $70 B350 boards.

I do like the 2200g. But only if you cant afford a GPU. Even the 1030 (which is borderline not even a gaming GPU) beats the 2200g's iGPU.

Thank you bro. i already have a gtx 960

$378 for a i3/MB/RAM/1030 vs $269 for a 2200G/MB/RAM is quite the difference when you look at nearly the same performance level. For someone on a tight budget and in another country the 2200g is a excellent option.

yes thats why I don't want a APU. so is it good to wait for the B series and H series motherboard ?
or should I buy the r3 1200 with a b350 motherboard?

If there coming out soon then I'd wait but there's still no official release date besides Q1 2018 which technically goes until the end of March.

Maybe you missed what I was trying to say.

I was not suggesting the OP buy a 1030 to pair with the 2200g. I was just using the 1030 in comparison to the 2200g's integrated graphics (since that is really all we have). Since the OP already has a 960 (obviously better than a 1030), there is no reason to use the integrated graphics on the 22000g. Therefore he could put his money towards a CPU that may not have as good of integrated graphics, but has better single threaded performance.

Don't buy the r3 1200. You can get a z370 board for 95$. You are not going to find h170 board for too much cheaper than that when they come available. You may not be able to use the overclocking features if you get a locked CPU, but you can still overclock the RAM and coffee lake has shown some better gains than Sky lake/Kaby lake with higher ram speeds.

If you live near a microcenter, go get your CPU there and you will get $30 off the motherboard. No one beats microcenter's CPU/Mobo prices. No one.

I just got a new information. In India the retailer are selling the i3 in around $142 and the AMD r3 1200 in around $102.
So is the extra $38 worth it?

Probably not. Considering the mobo will cost more too. Prices are high in India.

Realistically if you are playing at 1080p on a 60hz screen, once you overclock the AMD CPU, you probably won't see a lot of performance difference if any. Plus, AMD has said they will support socket am4 until 2020. If that's the case, then in a couple of years you may be able to buy an 8 core CPU with hyperthreading for example, and place into your motherboard with a bios update.

Gaming terms a 8100 is marginally better than a 1200/1300x/2200G, what makes the Ryzen 3 chips attractive is the cost difference which at your location isn't that drastic. If you want the best overall gaming FPS you can get right now then the 8100 build is the best option since you have a 960 GTX that is defiantly worth the less than $40 price difference between the Intel and AMD builds.

Considering a 2200G would be a good option provided you didn't have a GPU and a 1200/1300X would be good options only if you can't stretch your budget further.

Solution
^ while those are both good options , you are inflating the price of the ryzen build with the ram

2400 or 2666 ram is perfectly adequate for a ryzen 1200 , the performance difference to 2933mtz paired with a gpu for gaming is between 2-5% .
Not worth the extra .

Pair the same ram with both builds & the difference is more like $70.

Anyway, parkpicker india prices are totally unreliable , check the amazon page & both those sets of ram are way way more expensive than listed.
