Hey guys,

I am looking to upgrade my gpu from the gtx 750ti to a gtx 970. Possibly the cpu from fx 4300 to fx 6300.
Any Suggestions would be great,
Thanks.

My specs are
Mobo: 760GMA-p34 (fx)
cpu: fx 4300
gpu: gtx 750 ti
ram: 8gigs DDR3
psu: Evga 500 watt 80+ bronze certified

Solution
i mean if you are playing with an fx 4300 i doubt you play cpu intensive games because you would be crying at 20 fps lol
so again, an i7 will not be needed

At the most id get what i have, a 4690k, Z97 (1150) motherboard, gtx 970, and an aftermarket cooler
UPDATE******* Although I did purchase a GTX970 TWIN FROZR, i5-4690k, z97-e motherboard, Asus 144hz 24 inch monitor, an SSD and 2x8gb Kingston HyperX FURY Ram, I've only installed the Monitor, the GPU, and the RAM. and my pc gamnes 100x better. On games like The Division where I could only had @ medium 45fps with the gtx 750 ti I can now run on ultra @ 100 FPS. Blackops 3 from 50-60 on high, now ULTRA 120-130. And that's with the fx 4300 CPU and a cheap msi 760GMA-p34 Motherboard. If I would've known just the graphics card and Ram would've improved my pc this much I probably wouldn't even have purchased the i5-4690k and z97-3 motherboard. As for bottleneck it isn't noticeable while in games my cpu load is around 80% while my gpu is around 75%.

Great upgrades, kind've wish I didn't spend 400$ on new motherboard and cpu when it wasn't exactly needed though. But owell I will be even more pleased when I install them. Thx to all and to those who say you should'nt purchase a new GPU without upgraded your cpu and motherboard, well I think you should. Especially if you have an fx 4300 cpu. go ahead and get yourself a gtx 970 and visualize :)

You need 144 fps in the games to take advantage of the 144hz monitor, the 4690k isnt a waste, it will get you there
I also said a 4690k isnt needed, id get a 4460 in your case, especially if you werent going to overclock
And if you upgraded your ram too, you could've gotten skylake instead....

True! I am very pleased with my upgrades and I am sure to love the 4690k cpu. Thanks for all the info and I only meant that just the gtx 970 itself coupled with a weak 4300fx cpu is a drastic improvement over a 750ti coupled with that same cpu. it is worth the upgrade even if it bottlenecks 😛
I really can't wait to install this mobo and cpu I've never installed a mobo and cpu though so do you know of any good guides, relating to the z97-e and 4690k installation, the Hyper212 evo cooling fan too

If you dont know where things plug in, make sure to take a picture or look at it and take notes before you uninstall your old motherboard. (mostly where and how the cables from your case plug into) the motherboard will have it labeled which cable get plugged into where, and the cable from the case should be marked too, take noted whether the words on the cable are facing up or down, as it makes a difference for certain cases. Can also look at the color of the cables, for example, one of mine has 4 different colored cables on a 4 pin connector, i remembered that the yellow went on the left, and white on the right

Taking out motherboard is as easy as unplug all cables and take out the screws

YOUR NEW MOTHERBOARD WILL COME IN AN ANTI-STATIC BAG, Place your old motherboard into the bag to protect it
(keep old cpu on the motherboard)

To install new motherboard:

1. Set motherboard on top of the box it came in (anti static, protects it)
(top of motherboard has cpu socket and ram slots) Make sure to place it this way so you understand my instructions better.
2. Lift the cpu lever, the black cover will pop off when you do this
3. Line up the cpu, a corner of the cpu will be marked, that is the lower left corner of the cpu, and goes into the lower left corner of the cpu socket on the motherboard.
4. Close the cpu socket using the metal lever
5. put on cpu cooler, basically put bracket on back of motherboard, put the other bracket thing inside the 212 evo like shown in his video, and u just lower it into place, and screw each screw in the same amount until it starts to get difficult to turn, example, turn 5 times on each screw, and repeat until it gets hard to screw

Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n47WBQI31eE (or search youtube for a different video)

6. Place motherboard into pc case, line the screw holes with the stand offs in your case
7. Screw motherboard into place. NOT TOO HARD, you dont want to break your motherboard, but not so its really loose either, just screw till u feel some resistance
8. Plug everything in and enjoy the high fps. and super fast pc

Let me know if you have anymore questions or would like me to find an actual guide/video

Awesome DustinV! Thanks very much for the walkthrough and the link., I'll do this monday morning after work.

Hello! I have done the installation! It was fairly easy, did not encounter too many problems. I did not re-install windows I just uninstalled the AMD drivers and did install the z97 chipset support drivers. Seems to be working fine. I was a bit nervous I would screw things up.

Current System:
Asus Z97-E 1150 chipset
i5-4690k -
Hyper212 Evo Cooling
msi gtx 970
2x8gb Kinsgston HyperX Fury Ram
500w evga PSU.

I will be upgrading my PSU soon.
My idle temps for my CPU are around 30-32c, I hope that is okay I did all the steps provided.
Also another problem and it's happening since I upgraded to the MSI GTX 970 is when I use my Monitor Speakers I hear a Coil Whine or it sounds like interference while gaming. also if I stick my ear to side of case I can also hear it from my GPU or PSU.
It was happening with this GPU on the other system as well. and the card is brand new.
All in all thanks for all the help I really appreciate it and am very pleased with my system :)
