I currently have an AMD FX 6300 @ 3.9 GHz with the EVGA SSC gtx 960 4GB. The motherboard I currently have is the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 with 8gb ddr3 Corsair ram @ 1600mhz. Should I upgrade my processor to an i5 like the new skylake ones?

It's generally better to upgrade when you need to, rather than just because you saw a benchmark. If you aren't having issues, then it's not time to upgrade. That said, see if you are CPU bound. If you aren't, then any CPU upgrade you make won't be noticed.

To check, download MSI Afterburner and monitor the GPU usage. If it's near 99%, or at least 90% of better, you aren't in need of an upgrade. This is assuming you are using this build as a Gaming...

I saw some comparisons between my processor and the i5 and it seems to be a a lot better.

The 6300 isnt horrible, it really depends on if the games you play are lagging. If you performance is a little slow and you dont have an after market cooler get a hyper 212 for $25 and boost your clock speed to 4000 - 4200ghz.

As mentioned above, it really depends on why your upgrading, if you PC is doing good enough for what your using it for, wait another year before upgrading.
