I have a i7-920 2.66ghz with a gtx 680 OC and I tough I could buy a unlock motherboard and a 100$ water cooling and OC that dude at 4.2ghz or I should keep my money and buy a newer tech or its worth less.
Tought of buying a Evga X58 SLI, LGA 1366,with a Water 2.0 performer at 80-100$ whats your opinion ?

Sorry... Hahaha I don't know what I was thinking.I think my brain thought you said 775.

In my defense I haven't been sleeping much lately 😛 (Finals week)

Okay, well now that I'm thinking straight, this is what I think:
You have an amazing system. Do you need more performance? If you really want to overclock things, start with a cooler and do some light overclocking. If you find you can't get far without running into stability issues, then look into getting a new motherboard.

Sorry again for the messup!
Consider OCing the processor and upgrading the GPU. That would get you a solid amount of performance for little cost. What's your approximate budget and what is your current motherboard?

Also, I don't recommend replacing your CPU. Not yet anyway.

Well I just got this gpu for christmas(in advance he he) so I am not concidering changing it right now XD but I tought I could OC my cpu or its gettint to old and I should start getting my money together for a new cpu...The only budget I really have right now is the one for the maybe to buy unlock board and water cooling...I am 15 years old and money is kinda hard to get for me :) that is why I am asking this question.

Haha whoops! Not only that, but you have an awesome GPU 😛
My mistake! I should have read more carefully

You probably could get away with using your same motherboard for overclocking your CPU. What is your motherboard's model?

At this point, either upgrade your CPU and motherboard, or overclock it your CPU. Those are your best options at present.

I definitely think O'Cing is the way to go, though. It's a quad-core i7, just increase the frequency and you'll be good to go!

Thanks :) but my motherboard is a tbgm-01 from gateway its a stock one 🙁 I am right now talking with a dude to get his Evga X58 SLI, LGA 1366/Socket B, Intel (132-BL-E758-TR) Motherboard for 25.50$ with shipping but I need to be carefull its not broken...and with the money my godfather, godmother will give me (they told me XD ) Il buy a Water 2.0 performer or you might have a better cpu fan for overcloking...Thanks for your answer guy :)

Hmm. Yeah. Stock motherboards aren't exactly good for OCing 😛

Okay, so what's your budget for the CPU/Mobo upgrade?

And what Memory do you have, at what frequency?

Since your GTX 680 is overclocked, try overclocking the i7-920 to 3.4 GHz so it has similar performance to the i7-960, which is at 3.46 GHz. That is, of course, if you want optimal performance, and by optimal, I mean about 4 - 5 more FPS in games.

XD Well the reason I want to change motherboard is because my motherboard have lock the Overclocking feature that is why I need to buy a Evga x58.....But ok when I get my new mb and cooler Il start to small oc then go to 4ghz if I can :) thanks buddy for you're time

Ohhh. Gotcha. That's a real pain 😛

Well best of luck with the overclocking, let me know if you ever have any questions!
