I'm planning on building myself a gaming rig at the end of May, but I've just heard about the next gen Intel CPUs so I'm wondering if it's something worth waiting for. Every answer is appreciated. Thanks. :??:

Wow, twice in one thread. This must be some kind of record.

Don't get the 4770K it's an i7 and i7's don't clock as well for games as their i5 counterparts. Go with the 4670K or 4690K they are cheaper (more than $100 cheaper) and will work better for gaming than the i7 line.

Starting price for the 5th gen is reported to be $999...

It's not worth the cost when you can get a 4690K for $265 (CDN)

Also the 5th gen is just a “tick” in Intel’s development cycle. This means it shares the same microarchitecture as its predecessor (Haswell) with performance and efficiency improvements provided by the reduced chip size.

I'd say wait but only because once the 5th gen come out the 4th gen's will be marked even cheaper, but unless you've got $3000 to dump on a rig, save on the processor and spend on the vid card and mainboard. That is where you will see the biggest difference.

As for DDR4 ram, it has been released and the costs are ridiculous. $600 for 16GB DDR4 2800Mhz.

You can get 16GB DDR3 2133Mhz Corsair Dominator series for $269, and if you have the right mainboard overclock that to 3300Mhz.

As for the ASUS H97 mainboard line I'd suggest the Z97 line instead. Yes you'll pay about $100 more but you can overclock the processor and ram fairly easily and much higher than the H97 line allows.

Oh the GeForce 900 series have dropped and are in the stores now. For a change they are cheaper than the previous generation. Excellent specs.

I've put together a new rig and here are the specs. Before taxes I'm looking at $1869 CDN
