Should I Wait For the 8000 series AMD Graphics Cards?

I'm looking into building my first PC and I've been looking into the GPUs the most. 3 of my top GPUs I wanted just went out of stock in the span of 3 days and that's making me reconsider buying them right now. How close are the 8000 series to being released? I've heard in a month or two all the way to early Q1 2014. Should I go ahead and buy a card (Looking at the EVGA SuperClocked Geforce GTX 760 and Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 7950 currently) or wait until the 8000 series cards come out? The only reason I would buy one is if I get better performance for the same price (270 seems to be my average but 300 is probably my limit) Thoughts? Also some help picking out these cards would be goldy. Thanks!

the 8000 series have been released. but those are only rebrands that have been shipped to OEMs for prebuilts.
the 9000 series, the next amd gpu, ought to be released ~ oct 30th. i believe the common thought is the prices for the 79xx ATM are such a sweet price/performance that its doubtful the 9000 series will match it.

that has the 7970 pcb and voltage unlock to overclock that will come close to a 7970s performance. its amd fanboy's favorite rub against the 760. if you can play "catch the in stock time" you may want to get that card.

and i tell you this from a nvidia fanboy perspective - i despise the recent price drop but when asked for an honest answer . . .

^This. For $219 a 7950 would be a great option. A 7950 will do great, and the equivalent in the 9000 series will probably be about $350. The GTX 760 had the better price/performance than the 7950 when it was $300, but now I think the 7950 is the best bet.

Most likely AMD is gonna release the highest end 9000 series card first, and the second or third one down a few months later. If you can wait till christmastime, you should. But at these prices and with the free games I'd get that 7970

Well I think I'm going to go with the MSI GTX 760 OC Edition, it looks like a very nice card for $260 and it seems to run the same or better than the sapphire version posted above which I believe is a boost version? If "I've made a huge mistake" please tell me.

It won't run the same as the 7970ghz listed (that is around 770 levels while being cheaper) but the 760 will do quite well for that price I suppose.

If the 7970 is too much, and your power supply can handle it, you should go with a 7950, ~$40 cheaper than the 760, and when overclocked it beats the 760 by a small margin. Better performance, cheaper, and three free games.

Not really planning to over clock and the MSI OverClocked/Boost Model of the GTX 760 is actually quite nice and comes with 1 free game (not 3 but good enough). I'm willing to get a 7950 boost edition but I don't know which models to get. (MSI Twin Frozr one is out of stock on Newegg btw) Any help picking which make of the 7950 (boost) would be great.

The amd 9000 series is coming out late this year and early next year. However, amd cards are good for gamers playing on multiple monitors. For single screen gaming get a gtx 780

If the 7970 is too much then he could not get the 780, which is more than double the cost of 7970. If you meant 760 then I could somewhat agree.
