Should my side fan be blowing in or out ? pics included

my fan at in my case blows air out of the pc - meaning I feel the air when my hand is behind it, when the case is closed.


so the fan I intend to put on the side.

1 ) Should it blow in, or out , in meaning that when I put my hand next to it I wont feel anything - because it's blowing in. ???

Yes I plan to cut out the metal, put a mesh over it, and screw down a 200mm or 140mm fan.

Side fans generally work best as intake fans. If you are worried about temps you could get a really good gaming case for $50-$60 that comes with fans installed.
 
By the look you have at least 3 things blowing stuff out the case...

1. the main fan at back - exhausting air out the case
2. The power supply.
3. The graphics card.

Presumably you already have something at the front sucking stuff into the case?
But as you suggets - another side fan sucking in cool air... escpecially if it focused as supplying cool air to the CPU cooler is probably good.

You seem to have fairly restricted space in the photos... make sure all the air comming in and out has somewhere to go. Dont butt your PC
right up against a wall or anything.

Front fan blowing in. Supply fresh air to the componets inside and help cool the hdd.
Side fan blowing in, try to mount over your intake of the gpu fan area. Gives fresh air to them hot gpu's.
Back fan blowing out, remove heat from components and cpu.
PSU fan is blowing out.

The real trick on the side fan is not the processor but robbing air from your gpu.

Also, i would mount the side fan lower.

Or, if your handy, get the cpu intake cone and mount that over your cpu instead of a fan.

Usually you do, cold air in the bottom intake, hot air at the top exhaust.

Another thing you could do would be get a tower style cpu cooler. Be a lil better at cooling all your components. :)
 
It seems a bit difficult to cut the case & install a fan; unless you have the right set of tools. Also don't forget to install dust filter (You can always use a homemade one with sponge), or it will be dust clogged very quickly. :??:
 
You should really consider dumping that OEM case and getting an aftermarket case. They are cheap, usually come with 1 or 2 fans (even more depending on the money you spend), and will cool more efficiently than most any OEM Case.

With all the work you put in cutting and so forth... you'd be spending more. Unless your time isnt worth much. ;p

But blowing in would be the way to go.

Plus you should really consider redoing your cabling... it looks like a rats nest and definitely cuts down on your cooling efficiency. I've rerouted cabling in cases and have seen a good 5 degree difference.

You can get the Cooler Master HAF 912 for 50-60 bucks.

It comes with 2 fans and has great cable management for the price.

Whats cool, is you can stick your extra fans in it and bam... you got one heck of a cooling machine for the price.

and if you ever want to go water cooling... this is one of very few in this price range thats already set up for water cooling.

its just a really all around great inexpensive solution to keeping your system cool.


and believe me... the minute you get those cables managed more efficiently, youre gonna see a good 5 degree difference inside the case
 
Look around at the cases, depends on what you want to spend.

Tradition for money, probally the antec 300 series, i know it's a atx case and you got a matx board.
Nzxt makes some cases, if you want to go really cheap, rosewill challenger.
Want to spend some money, silverstone trejin tj-08 is one of my favorites, though that power supply might be a lil large for it.
Corsair makes some nice cases but they're big.

Just look around... are you possibly going to upgrade in the future? Finding a case with an internal 20 pin usb 3.0 cable is nice.

I got a corsair 650d which is awesome for my needs. I help people out with the computer for the top docking bay is nice for transfering hdd info.

Haf series are nice as well.
 
Of those I listed I have used the Antec 300 Illusion in over a dozen builds. It will run on sale sometimes for ~$50 and at that price can not be beat. I have it's big brother the 1200.
 


Yes, thats another good little case. I just like the cooler master better because its more stout and has a better choice up top for air flow and looks better. lol
 
Honestly I have never heard of that brand. It might be UK specific. It comes with 1 x 120mm front fan and space for 1 x 120mm back and 1 x 140mm top fans so the cooling would be decent. I can not say how good build quality would be. Probably not great at that low a price. It would be ventilated better than that OEM you are using now though.

Edit: Comes with mounting space for 2 x 120mm side fans as well, missed that.
