i currently have 8gb of memory 1600mhz 9-9-924 timing, 9 latency, i wanan go up to 16gb 2x8gb 8-8-8-24 memory, do i need that right now or not yet? i play gta 5,titanfall,cod, stuff like that. i got a gtx 970 and i7 4790k.... or should i get a mechanical keyboard razor chroma and gaming mouse instead? i currently use a wireless mouse and keyboard from logitech

If you're just gaming and don't like your peripherals I'd go for those. An easy way to tell if you're running out of RAM is using task manager and look at how much you use while gaming. Most likely you aren't hitting that 8GB on games alone. Also wireless for gaming is the worst! :)

Do you need more than 8gb? The only game i can think of that uses more than 8gb of ram is star citizen most games dont even come close in fact 4gb is still good for a lot of games. Game developers seem to be emphasizing vram and not system ram so i think 8gb will be plenty for modern games for at least the next few years.

I will say I had an issue with GTA and windows using 7.8gb of my RAM, so I now have 16gb, but I know a few people who are getting much lower RAM usage, if you are playing and everything is running smoothly, then you are fine, but like it says above me, just open task manager and game for a bit, then tab out and look at the memory usage chart, unless that tops out then you shouldn't need to upgrade, and for the peripherals, wireless isn't a good idea with gaming unless you only spend a short time each session, again, I have done 14-16 hour game nights on SWTOR, 8 hours on rust, 12 hours plus on GTA, so that will kill the batteries, so get a wired set up, mechanical is more of a preference than a must, I personally don't like them and got an APEX from steel series, find a shop and have a play and find what you like :)

I use 5.8gb total with gta v running.

this sort of proves my point that most people seem fine, so like we all agreed, 8gb is more than likely fine, however a safe bet is either spending more on 16 to be safe if you have the money, or getting a kit that doesn't comprise of 4 2gb sticks so you can always add more later if you get stuck, without having to deal with spare RAM

as I said, mech keyboards are more of a personal preference than a must for gamers, gamer mice have some advantages over regular work mice, especially at higher resolutions as they are more actuate and can be set to a higher track speed, using a slow mouse on a 4k screen in hell
