My computer keeps shutting down but only when im playing a game
it was happening once or twice yesterday thought it was just windows 8 playing up
but now when i start playing a game straight away it shuts down

r9 280x toxic
amd fx 8350 black edition
h100 cpu cooler
650watt psu i forget what 1 (if this is the problem i will cry)
asus m5a97 r2.0
1Tb hard drive

Many things can cause a system to shut down or even restart.

Bad power supply(check that label to see the specs).
Too much heat. Both video cards and cpus will only take so much heat before shutting down.
Bad drivers. It is less common, but bad drivers can crash/freeze/blue screen a system.
Bad memory can crash a system. Most times with a blue screen however.

I am sure other problems can cause similar issues.

Check the temperatures with something like HWmonitor.

Is it shutting down as soon as you launch the game, or does it take some time? If it's happening right away, it could be more indicative of a driver problem than a thermal issue, in which case I'd suggest reinstalling your driver.

Hard to say if it's your PSU without knowing more about it. If it's a reputable brand, it's unlikely this is the problem, 650w should be more than enough for a single R9 280x provided it's a decent brand. If it's some no name PSU then it could very well be your problem in that the graphics card is drawing more load than the PSU can handle.

When you fire up a game, if it takes some time for the system to crap out, Alt + Tab back to your desktop, launch CCC and see what the temp reading is for the card.

Since it is happening during gaming, I would suspect your graphic card overheating/driver/power supplied.

Do a clean install, update your graphic card bios (check online if it is an issue for that model). If problem resumed, RMA your graphic card and check your power supply. This is what I would do.

It just sounds like your video card driver has a problem, but we need to determine if this is a software or hardware issue first. Google "how to disable automatic restart" , once you've done this, play a game. Your PC 'should' then give you a Blue Screen of Death, instead of shutting down. If it does, there will be text, look for any files like 'atidrv.sys' or stop codes like this '0x0000007b'. Between us and google, these error codes will tell you what the problem is. Likely, it's video drivers in which case just uninstall them completely, and reinstall them. On the other hand, if disabling automatic restart , and pulling up a game still shuts the PC down, you are experiencing a 'hardware reset', in which case it is something to do with hardware (misconfigured, loose component, etc)

ii can browse the ingame options as soon as i join its only csgo aswell i dont think its a demanding game

i get a warning now from suite 2 saying cpu temp 66
here is a ss using the software you advised

66 degrees shouldn't be forcing your CPU into shutdown; I had my i7-940 years ago overclocked pretty hard, it regularly hit 85-90 degrees and it was still kicking along fine.

i know i read somewhere 66 was ok im pretty lost here the psu is 750w fractal
