Signal 291 when changing areas

Hi.

I have been playing ADOM 1.1.1 on my Windows 2000 computer for several
months. Recently, I have been getting "Critical Internal Error: Signal
291" when moving from one area to the next (e.g. leaving the town,
entering a dungeon, going up or down staircases etc).

I've tried re-installing the game from scratch with no success. I
haven't had any hardware changes. I can't see anything on the ADOM
website that relates to this specific problem (error 291 seems to be
common, but not in the same circumstances I've encountered)

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?

Thanks.

I've had the same problem before when running ADOM on my old 486, but I
assumed it was a result of bad memory or my configuring the memory
incorrectly when I rebooted (the computer had a dead clock battery).
Either I was wrong to think it was the result of my computer's bad
memory, or your computer has a similar RAM issue. Aside from possibly
different circumstances, it was the exact same bug with me.

FWIW, if you're using ADOM WinBeta, I'd try switching to ADOM for
DOS--I've gotten a consistent but nebulous impression that it's
generally solider.

I'm very sorry I can't be more help, and I hope you find something that
works.

Love and coffee,
Frances

Hi.

For what it's worth, I re-installed the OS on my laptop and everything
seems ok now. So if anyone else encounters this problem, I recommend
this as a last resort.

Thanks to all those who replied.
