Significant FPS drop when twitch is on second monitor

I play a game called smite, and whilst playing I like to watch streams on twitch. If I pull up twitch on my second monitor I loose about 40 frames in game on the other monitor, is this normal because I feel that a 40 frame drop is pretty ridiculous for just bringing up twitch. Also if I change tab on chrome so that twitch isn't the current focused tab I regain the 40 or so frames so it is definitely twitch streams that are causing the drop.

Solution
I had the same issue. To remedy it, while the stream is running, go into your task Manager and find the Stream Browser Task that is utilizing most of your CPU and Memory in the "Details" Section Once you find it the correct one, right click on it and select "Set Affinity", uncheck all but one CPU. This should increase your In game Framerate by limiting that browser to only 1 CPU Thread instead of all of them.


What are your specs, and also what type of internet connection do you use (wifi or wired)?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. So, it turns out that Twitch streams take a lot more resources to run than you might think. There have been many cases where twitch has been referenced using more than 30% CPU power, even on an Intel i7.

The problem is that when a stream is run, it has to be refreshed constantly on your pc because it is live.

Imagine it this way:
in a standard video streaming website (youtube for example), the video is rendered ahead of time, which means that when you load the video it can simply buffer several frames ahead. However, on a live stream (twitch for example), each frame has to be buffered one at a time, which gives your CPU no breathing room.

Solution
Even though this thread is over a year old this problem still persists for me. With a stream open, I see CPU usage jumping around between 15-28% which is ALOT on an i5 3,5Ghz on Chrome. Averaging around ~23 fps.



Not sure if I'm understanding you right, but Twitch and any online direct stream also buffers, alot more than 1 frame, usually 5-10 seconds of playback at least. Therefor our playback will always be delayed a few seconds. No offense but this shouldn't be marked as an accepted answer.



This is actually more of a solution in which, where I selected core 3 and disabled 0-2, my CPU usage was a perfectly stable 15-17% which is more in range of expectance. Bit tedious to have to do this all the time though.

Not sure if this also fixes the problem I was ACTUALLY looking for, which is having a Twitch stream open on a 2nd monitor will cause fps drops in games after a while (getting worse and worse until it's unplayable). Will be testing it :)
 


Same here, it's because Twitch still use flash, it basically sucks, hopefully when they fully switch to html 5, this will reduce it greatly.
