Hi, i will need the simplest 3d modelling software to model a PC case that i was planing to build. I would use photoshop cs6 but i don't know how to do anything in it especially 3d. Thanks!

razerg,

My suggestion is to have a look at Trimble Sketchup Make:

http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-make

This is an amazing product as it is a surprisingly versatile 3D modeling program that is easy ti use and free. When I first tried Sketchup, I just started pressing buttons and almost instantly I was able to make complex 3D building models- these were random, out of the control collisions of forms, but intriguing as it was instant and dramatic results.

You can download models and textures from the "3D Warehouse and import them: I was hooked after 10 minutes and retrieve landscapes and integrate designs into Google Earth. There is a Pro version that is 64-bit and has other applications for technical drawing and rendering styles and can use AutoCad *.DWG. It's very 3D oriented, but 2D drafting is possible. You can make animations or "scenes" that will rotate and zoom in to our model. - Really fantastic and a lot of architectural and engineering offices use Sketchup ffor first runs at designs as it's so fast to use.

for fun it's possible to go a long way with no instruction, but for good results, it's best though to learn the controls, how to mirror objects to set up layers, make groups and components, and so on.

Amazing stuff and since Google Earth Pro became free also, there are two astounding, free programs.

Thanks, but i don't need textures for landscapes i just need to create a close image of what the PC case would look like that i can't do with paint (i tried it sucks).

razerg,

If you're making a 3D model of the computer case in Sketchup, you can give it any color you want, metal finishes, and if you have any windows on the case, these can be made transparent and you can see inside. If you download a model of a computer motherboard from the 3D Warehouse, you can show the interior by making the lid / cover a components- moves as a unit- and show the case inside with the cover off and on. You can turn on shadows and make a background, then rotate the model to different angles, or cut sections. Then go to: File > Export > 2D Graphic and you can take as many snapshots as you want. I did a 3D of a 100 acre tech campus with more than 200 buildings and added my part of 800,000 square feet of space- all in Sketchup.

I don't mean to make your project bigger than you'd like, but I think that learning Sketchup could be extremely useful. Everything visual today is 3D modeling- 2D is only fro the brochures and advertising. Sketchup is as easy to use as toy, but I've seen listings for architecture and engineering jobs that ask for Sketchup experience often.

My motto with software is : "Know it before you need it."
