Where the hell did Tom's get this information? They still must be under the faulty assumption that the latest beta build doesn't still have some Vista left overs.

[citation][nom]amdgamer666[/nom]Windows 7 is supposed to be all 64-bit, which is about damn time as it's essentially Microsoft's fault that 32-bit is still even in existance.[/citation]

No it isn't. It's going to be the last Microsoft Desktop OS to have a 32-bit variant.

FUCKING SHIT, ITS WINDOWS VISTA ALL OVER AGAIN

im fucking mad and enraged now, ive been using windows 7 and yeah its such a glorified version of vista, and hopefullly final, does please most everyoe inthe world, hopefully, but .as for me argh.. ill hang onto xp until i cant do what i currently do in it (play all current games/work)

ms make sme cry T________T

The windows 7 starter sounds pretty stupid to me. 3 applications at a time even for a netbook that would be low. I don't think microsoft learned with all the problems they had with windows vista certification. If they have some stupid starter version and say that can run win 7 it could get pretty ugly.

I reread the article. Tom's is retarded. They are going off of information from a Beta build, which Microsoft confirmed is simply a leftover from Vista.

They are saying this contrary to all sources, they need to stop spreading misinformation.

That is retarded and shows that Microsoft still doesn't "get it". Stop with the Stupid MARKETING ***!

"As for the other versions, Windows 7 Starter will be quite limited with only being allowed to run three applications at a time, lower screen resolutions, no live thumbnail previews and limited processor support."

Three applications? How one defines "application"? Is an antivirus software an application? So one who has an antivirus, a messenging software and a browser will have to close one of the previous to open his e-mail client?

Limited processor support? A dual-core processor will be limited to one core? There will be a cap of 2.4ghz? Applications will run purposedly choppy?

I'm not interested by this version but I'd still like more explanations.

I laugh every time I hear about some retard paying retail price for Windows and complaining about how high the cost is. If you're going to pay for an operating system, at least have the sense to get the OEM version.

I'm pretty sure that DX11 will be a download for Vista so the improved gaming won't matter what OS you get/have. The price for a new OS shouldn't be so high. I think MS will be sorely disappointed in the sales of Win7.

I see no issue with this approach, The Home Premium and Professional will be just like Home and XP Professional. The when your in a business you get Professional or Enterprise (volume). If you want to spend the money and have it all even if you don't use them buy Ultimate. I don't know how many times a build a machine and someone wants Ultimate on there when they don't need it; just a waste of $100 if you ask me.

Yes apple bundles all theirs in one, but they also make you buy a new update every year for $100 to get new features and most people don't even use the unix backbone of OS X so it is a waste.

Microsoft is just trying to appeal to different markets and what is wrong with that? It really is the same for an IPod, sure Apple could just give sell a 32GB ipod, but not everyone wants to spend the money nor use the space, so they create subversion's of their product.

Well, I wonder why Microsoft doesn't make 12 flavors. That's how many flavors I can choose from when I walk in an ice cream store.

Wake up! I'm sick that Microsoft is still such incompetent.

Everyone complains about Vista and blames Microsoft. I've been using Vista Ultimate 64 Bit since launch and the only problems I've ever had were with drivers from the Hardware Vendors.

What do people expect when they buy a $500-600 prebuilt system with 512MB memory, an integrated POS video card, & tons of crapware?

Microsoft, please fire your software marketing department. All you need are 2 versions of Windows. Windows 7 and Windows 7 Server. Your problem as a company is you make things more complex than they need to be.

Who the hell -1'ed me? Tom's has not proof for this statement, other than some data that's be confirmed as false.

That Beta install screen is a Vista leftover, end of story. Stop spreading misinformation Tom's.

I just like the thumbs down button.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOH NOES Too many ver$ionz of M$ windoz" (edited for enhanced douche-iness)

People would complain either way, another option is to offer the features available to each version for sale individually.

"OMGZ OMGZ OMGZ M$ iz too expen$ive" (again, extra dollar signs to really show how these people think like four-year-olds)

Not to mention the amount spent on QA would skyrocket if they decided to go a la carte like that. You need to ensure that every permutation of the base product is as secure and functional as the next.

STUPID STUPID STUPID, lets confuse consumers just like we did with Vista. Because we all know how successfull THAT was. You need two versions. PRO and HOME, (and the server equivalents) THATS IT. WASTE OF TIME, EMPLOYEES, MONEY and RESOURCES> IF MS wants to save money, let the employees go that thought of this stupid decision.

You what seems crazy to me. Microsoft didn't build Windows 7 Basic and then add new features for an additional cost. Microsoft actually built Windows 7 Ultimate first and then spend thousands of man hours developing and testing the less featured versions. Just so they could have different price points. This is not like Windows 95 and the Windows 95 Plus Pack. The spent millions of dollars to develop the lower costing versions. Rather than having one version with a lower cost.
