just wondering if this game lived up to your expectations and how well it runs on your rig. my opinion is it doesnt look much better than oblivion, just more polished but to be fair it crashed before i could get 10 mins in. and even though im rinning 2 570's in sli and 2500k at max settings im averaging about 50 fps. so im a little dissapointed. poor optimization on bethesdas part

Solution
first impressions after about 2 hours of play is, im playing ye olde worlde fallout 3...

it seems that nvidia drivers do have issues atm. if you want to max out the game just set it to ultra but leave all the draw distances and fades at default as there more dependent on how much memory your gfx card has... turn off sli and set the fx check box and reflections checkbox to ticked... then start the game, you should manage 60 fps in most areas, as i do...
playing it maxed out on a single 5870 with a solid 60 fps... x4 fsaa x16 anno everything on ultra with all water reflections on...
so i guess its either an sli issue (try turning 1 card off) or a driver issue...
its a maximum of a dx10 game from what i see. so your system should murder the framerates...

There is a fix for one of the crash issues. You have to select the correct sample rate and bit depth in your sound properties under the control panel. I can't remember what you need to change it to off the top of my head. There is an article at pcgamer.com that explains some graphics enhancements in addition to the fix for the crash issue. I'd link to it, but I'm currently at work and can't get to the pcgamer website. Stupid internet filter. 😉

I haven't played long enough to have an impression yet. But what I did see of it, I agree that it looks like an improved Oblivion.

i played for another 3 hrs and i like it a little more. it didnt crash on me once. i guess the graphics arnt too horible, its just that while waiting for it to install i was playing bf3. night and day difference between the two. hopefully we get a dx11 patch in a month or so and a high res pack like crysis2 got

The game is great, but the optimization is horrible. I got the new beta drivers from nvidia, witch supposedly optimize SLI mode...

Yeah its a load of crap. SLI actually doesn't boost my FPS AT ALL! It even makes it worst sometimes. Just walking in town and it drops to 30 fps without any reason. It really is annoying. Usually on high settings it stays at 60 with some drops to 50. Ultra just kills my pc though. Funny thing is both GPU are barely working at 50% capacity, under 50 degrees.

Anyone as any idea how to fix that btw? I have two gigabyte 560 ti OC at clock speed

played for 2 hrs so far. Im quite disappointed in the graphics and menu system. It honestly doesnt look much better than Oblivion with a texture pack. The trees and foilage look average, this is obviously designed to run on a PS3. And have you seen the fish? its like someone cut a guppy from an aquarium magazine and coloured it in. I know in sounding harsh, but i expected more as Oblivion and Morrowind excelled in areas this game does not. Gmeplay is excellent though, nothing to complain about there. Im dropping down to 23fps in areas with custom detail settings (1080p, high settings with some details dropped, shadows on high really kills my FPS). Im pretty sure its my CPU holding things back though. - oh, and ive noticed the ends of the chins and noses of people often have square pixelations........... hopefully we will see some mods to fix the shortcomings of this game in a month or two.

i'm having some trouble running it maxed too. it auto detects and sets me at medium quality. i would think i should be able to max seeing how i can run Crysis 100% maxed out 50-60fps+ all day long. the only thing i can see being suspect is my RAM. would that be causing my issue? i have...

- AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE @ 3.4ghz
- 4gb G.Skill DDR3 1600
- Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 2GB DDR5
- OCZ Fatal1ity 750w
- Windows 7 64-bit

I'm getting a solid 60fps with just a 2500k @4.5 and a 560ti 2GB @720p

The only issue is when monitoring CPUZ while playing it is constantly switching the multiplier between 16x and 45x.

This could be causing some issues?

Anyone else monitored this while playing and suffering the same issues?

it autodetected me as high settings, and i have a worse system than yours. But high runs bad on mine. It also doesnt officially support crossfire yet, so one of your gpu's on your 5970 is going to waste. You probably want a better cooler and overclock your phenom II to 3.8-4ghz. 4GB ram should be fine, runs smooth without much loading on my PC with 4gb. Ram will only affect in game loading and stuttering, not average FPS.

I'm currently running BF3 on high details with a x4 955BE, HD 5770, and single channel 4Gs of mixed RAM and the game is fairly smooth @ 40fps on 1920x1080p res. I'm not OC'ing at all so I'm not sure what the problem might be.

PS this game ROCKS

I was pondering investing in this game myself, and i am certainly glad im not the only one that thinks the graphics seem a little dated and rough around the edges. A lot of the reviews i have read differ in that opinion, perhaps eyetests should be compulsory for gaming journalists.

Im thinking my old 9800gt should be able to handle this okay!

i found a fix for it. i dunno what is causing it but all i have to do is minimize the game, then maximize it again. unfortunately, i have to do this every time a new area is loaded.
