so i have a Evga gtx 970 acx 2.0 and my friend gave me his old gigabyte gtx 970 windforce 3x but i dont have a sli bridge and i would not want to buy one before someone confirms that those 2 cards work together

Solution
Sli bridges are super cheap to buy unless it is a special HB bridge, they are more expensive.
About pairing different 970s - the faster one will run the same speed as the slower one, or you can overclock the slower one to match the faster one.

Regarding games, almost all games are supporting 2x sli these days, but of course there are still many unsupported.
Therefore, if your friend gave you the card for free as a present, you might consider selling them both and buy a 1070/80 as I did. :)
They do work, however the faster one, will slow itself down, to mach with the slower gpu.
Though i do not recommend using SLI because alot of games do not support it, leaving one of the cards unused

Thank you for the answer

You shouldn't have any issues. I'd do a bit of research to find out if the games you play support SLI (and support it well). A (very small) number of games also support DX12 m-GPU now for which you don't need a bridge.

I notice that some (non HB) SLI bridges can be found for around $10 to $15 online. I actually got one included free with my motherboard!
