SLI code 43 error

Hi,

I've read a few threads on this but haven't found a proper answer. I've just built a new system with all new parts, except the slightly used 2 x Asus GTX480's. I attached the SLI bridge and the card in the 1-slot works but Windows has stopped the 2-slot with a code 43. I'm going to swap the slots over later in the week when I'm next home but any ideas in the meantime? My new rig is:

Coolermaster HAF X
Coolermaster silent pro gold 1000W
Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
i7-2600k @ 3.4GHz
OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB SSD (system)
WD 450GB Velociraptor
8GB Corsair Vengeance CL8
Arctic Cooler Pro (can't remember the exact model, as I rushed out and bought it on the weekend when I realised my Zalman had been shipped minus the 1155 brackets)
2 x Asus GTX480 SLI

By the way, the PSU failed after an hour and I've ordered another but that's for another thread.

With PSU's there are so many out there and most of them are junk. The one's you want are Corsair,Antec,Seasonic, and XFX brands with 80 plus on them as well. I don't know if this will help but here is a link to code 43. The second link is to microsoft your code 43 should be in there.

Thanks dm186. I've just bought another of the same PSU, on the basis that I can't possibly get two duds. I'll check out those links to code 43 soon.

Here is a list of good PSU's to the worst. The first link is in Tier's and your PSU is in the 3rd tier which is right in the middle. It could go either way. the second link is the AMD choice of PSU's

Mmm, I still have my Corsair 750TX (tier 2) but it's not quite powerful enough for the new rig (it needs 850W minimum). It's been faultless though. I'll put my faith in the tier 3 PSU for now. Thanks again.

By the way, that code 43 error looks typical for Win7. Bummer.

It seems the the code 43 can be related to a lot of different things. As to your tier 3 PSU it states that it will handle what it is suppose to do, they are just showing you to be carefull and since you have had good luck with it before I don't see that it would be any different than before. It turns out there was nothing wrong with the PSU. The system only fails to start when I hook up the second graphics card. It must be tied in with the code 43 error but I haven't had time to test it further.

Any ideas?

Does the code 43 follow the card or the slot?

It's not the slot or the card. It's only having both cards hooked up that does it. I've read some advice that seems to have worked for others - uninstall all nVidia drivers, power off, hook up both cards, power on & install only the graphics drivers to start witter (not the PhysX stuff). I can't remember the next part but I'll do some more research and test again.

Actually, I was wrong - it turned out the card was faulty and I've returned it. Thanks for your help.
