SLI/Crossfire vs single card

Im building a new computer, and wondering, is it worth spending (AUD):
$579 on a MSI Radeon R9 390X
or
spending maybe $500 odd on a crossfire/sli pair?
Have found a lot of pros/cons for both sides, but nothing more recent

A higher end single card will be always better. Not all games perform well with SLI or have SLI support.You get more heat from two cards sandwiched together and take more power.
You may want to wait for the GTX 1070 release or even polaris and see how it fares with the R9 390X.

SLI takes more power, makes more heat, it can have microstuttering in games, not all games are supported... It makes sense when you already have one of the cards, not for a new system.

The standard is one good graphics card is always better than a multi GPU setup. So I would suggest using one good graphics card.

Talking about multi GPU setups, SLI is better than Crossfire. Why I say that? AMD doesn't have good drivers and any working features (Like Vsync). And only few games have crossfire profiles. But Nvidia on the other hand has good support for SLI.

But I would suggest getting a single highend GTX 900 series GPU or GTX 1000 series GPU suiting your budget. Multi GPU configurations are hard to maintain and consume a lot of power.
