Sli model limitations

I understand that gpu s being connected by sli have to be the same model, but does this mean same model exactly, or same general stock gpu.

For example, I have a Gigabyte GTX 760 Windforce, do I need another one of those exactly or can it be paired with a different manufacturers 760?

You can pair a different card with different manufacturer.
