SLI OR better graphics card?

Hi guys , bit of a noob question here

Will i get better results if i SLI two Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1080 G1 gaming cards in x16/x16 configuration or if i buy one Gigabyte geforce GTX 1080 FE ?

CPU: Intel core i7-8700k
Motherboard: MSI Z370 SLI Plus
RAM: Corsair 2x8GB Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000
SSD: SanDisk Ultra 3D 1TB
Power Supply: Seasonic SSR-850FX
Case: Thermaltake View 31 RGB

at the point of your question, I would have to ask what are you trying to achieve? and what monitor are you using?

the 1080FE are not that great (for what you pay), you would have to go with SC Editions (which are basically the tweaked versions)

one 1080 (even non ti) will be able to run a 2k 144hz monitor, or a 4k monitor without issues. There are some new GPUs coming out from nVidia in a couple of months, you could wait till then to get another to SLI with (or dual GPU with) whichever option you take

It depends on what you're planning to do. Some games don't really make good use of SLI for example. In theory two 1080s are better than one, but why pay for two if you don't need to?

I'm assuming you meant the single card to be a 1080 TI?

For general use, I'd recommend avoiding SLI unless you're literally out of things to spend money on for more performance. I gave up on it after what felt like less and less games supporting it, and those that do often having unique bugs that negatively impact the experience.

When it works, it's great and you feel like you have a monster machine, but these moments are too few and far between to really recommend it for general use.

So a better GPU like the Geforce Gtx 1080 TI FE or the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Aorus Xtreme wont be an overkill for my current setup?
