sli or crossfire?

Hi there folk,just a little question.My m/b (gigabyte 990fxa-ud3) supports both formats sli and crossfire ,was wondering which one is more reliable,using a 7870 2gb ddr5 at present.I can pick up another card at a good price just like to know if there will be a benefit.

Yes there will be a benefit from the second card. AMD has fixed most issues with CF in their new drivers.

You really don't have a choice..... the you have the 7870 and that being an AMD card is capable of CF but not SLI as thatz nVidia's shindig.

You'd have to dump the 7870 and buy 2 new nVidia cards to SLI.

Yes you will have a performance boost with a SLI/Crossfire. I preffer SLI's and Crossfires than a single card. I'm running 2-way SLI GTX-660 Ti giving me performance better than a GTX 670 and close to a GTX 680.

Ok I dont have to much of a problem with that as cards like the raedon hd6950 2gb ddr5 are on sale right now at $190

Neither if your buying a new card always buy the best card you can Xfire and SLI bring alot of problems eg stuttering, heat issues. wasted resources that a single card wouldnt experience. If you Have to use one use SLI as it is more refined but when ever you dont wont to buy the same card try and get a more powerful single card rather than two weaker ones.

Fortunately, I'm having a 7970 cross fire as well as a GTX 660 Ti Sli, till date I'm having no such issues as you mentioned.
