sli stopped working after windows 8.1 install

so i have a pretty new (3 months or so) Lenovo Y510P with 750M SLI.

I installed windows 8.1 yesterday and the second (Ultrabay) 750M disappeared. I restarted and reinstalled drivers and it showed up in device manager but had an error (This device has reported an error so windows has disabled it [or something like that])

ummmmm wtf? how can windows install mess that up? can anyone help me go thru diagnostics to figure out exactly what is wrong? in the device details the problem code is 0000002B.

it should be noted that i have taken the usual steps such as uninstalling/reinstalling drivers in safe mode. installing drivers in safe with the ultrabay gpu taken out. rebooting, then rebooting again with ultrabay in but nothing. done all these plus a lot more too

Perhaps you should have inserted/installed the second card after installing Windows 8.

Perhaps Windows Installer 'saw' the second card as a conflict and disabled it then?

I would reinstall with one and then attach and install the other.

Might that be it?

i thought about this too... but the question then is how do i reinstall it? without losing all my programs n stuff(i have a ton) i mean ive done it its just a pain in the a$$. i wonder if its possible to system restore to just win 8 and then reupgrade... im gonna research this a little

Well, reinstall Windows 8.1 again. Over the existing one as an upgrade.

Don't forget to take out the card.
