Hello,
I need help. Basically I got a PC this Christmas and I have been facing poor performance and stuttering that I think just shouldn't be happening. I have searched through every forum I can find and every supposed fix video for it.

So far I've:
uninstalled bloatware
updated drivers
done a clean install of the graphics driver
messed about in the registry
Defragmented my hard drive
Tried to check if the issue is game side but I don't think it is at all
Yet none of these have seemed to help at all so now I'm out of options but to ask for help.

By stuttering I mean that I get a good, solid 60 fps for a bit then out of nowhere frame rate just drops to about 2 and go's back up in 2 to 3 seconds. Also sometimes the frame rate just dies and makes the game unplayable for 5 to 20 seconds then go's back to normal. Also whenever I alt tab out of pretty much any game it takes ages for it to load up and even for it to just realise that I did it in the first place.

Furthermore this can also be seen on the desktop. Things are slow to load and when they do they quickly become unresponsive and on a few occasions just crash out of nowhere. Google Chrome is the biggest offender of this as sometimes I'll be doing nothing and it will just crash and stop working.

This happens on every game ,old and new, and is driving me mad. Maybe I'm asking for too much and this is how it's meant to be but I really can't see that as the cause.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask anything I left out and I'll do my best to answer.

I should also mention that my PC is custom built by myself and I wouldn't say I'm wholly experienced with this after coming from console. Perhaps there is something so easy to do to fix it that I've simply missed.

Thank you,
Euan Jones.

Okay, sorry for the nooby questions but what is thermal throttling? As well as RMA.

Can I just set the display to the Igpu or should I just remove the other gpu entirely.

Ah I thought it was to do with overheating but I am fairly certain that, that isn't the case as all temperatures seem fine when running games.
And if it is broken I hope that I'm liable for a replacement.

By the way should the graphics card be faulty would that be slowing down the rest of my PC?

Okay I'll have to try that.

Okay so quick update.

After reviewing the reliability page I have had the errors 1000007e (I think) which is to do with RAM or drivers I believe.
Furthermore I also revived the error 139 which I think is to do with the GPU as it is a kernel thing (again, I think)

I used the IGPU but alas the stutter still occurs, my next task is to run memtest86 to see if that brings anything up. If not I will assume it is drivers until proven otherwise and research that.

I will continue to update this as progress is made and if anyone knows anything about this any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I apologise in advance for the slow updating.

You know I honestly don't know. It was my first time building a PC all by myself and it never crossed my mind.

After running memtest86 I had no errors after 8 passes. However it also said that the RAM was 0 so maybe I was using the wrong version.

Another thing I noticed was the fact that the cores were only 1 so I changed it to 4, is that gonna make a huge difference upon next boot?

Another update
I used another version of memtest86 and after 4 runs it gave no errors as well. I can now only assume it's drivers causing the issue.

I also got a Blue Screen this morning, here is the signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
Code: 1000007e
Parameter 1: ffffffffc0000005
Parameter 2: fffff8037df03239
Parameter 3: ffff9980292b44a8
Parameter 4: ffff9980292b3ce0

Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1
OS Version: 10.0.15063.2.0.0.256.48
Locale ID: 2057
The stop code was "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"

I ran whocrashed and it narrowed it down to ntoskrnl.exe and that seems to be a likely fault I think with everything else considered.

I'll look for a fix for this or if anyone knows of one, let me know.

Damn I forgot to scroll down, here's a list of all of the "faulty modules":
ntkrnlmp.exe
ntoskrnl.exe
srtsp64.sys
fltmgr.sys

I'm afraid I have, but I'll try it with this DDU.

Oh. Another thingy. Your using Nvidia so I must ask. Did you update to Windows Creators up date? Have you gone and disabled Fast Boot? It's been causing problems.

Try going into Control Panel/System and Security/Power Options then click on "Choose what the Power Buttons do" on left. The click on ""Change Settings That are Currently Unavailable". From there uncheck "Turn on Fast Startup (recommended)"

You can always re enable it but let us know if it helps.

Okay, sorry for the late reply.
So my PC wouldn't start up so in the end I did a partial reset and now after running who crashed it shows no crashes upon startup. I'm still installing all of my games so I'll update this when they're done and see if this fixed it.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Dude, how hot do your cpu and gpu get after a while? Overheating is often the culprit.

Another update,

I've been on holiday so I apologise for the late reply, however I have some good news. My PC feels so much faster now and stuttering is much less apparent...

However,
I still do have an issue. In the reliability monitor this critical event is popping up all over the shop:

I've researched this and after uninstalling and installing new drivers for this it still is not fixed.
Once again if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

No I don't. So would I just be able to uninstall it and it'll be fine?
