So I bought Battlefield 4 on Origin yesterday. I've been downloading the game since last night and it's only at 48%. The speed varies from 60 KB/sec to 300 KB/sec. But when i pause and resume downloading, it starts at around 2 MB/sec then starts to drop down to 300 KB/sec in under a minute. I went to Speedtest and my download speed is 12.53 Mbps.

So I don't know if my ISP is throttling my download speed, (300 KB/sec seems a bit low) or if the Origin servers are just busy but it's kind of frustrating. Does anyone have any solution? How do I know for sure if my ISP is throttling Origin? I've also tried restarting my computer and reset my router, but nothing changes the speed. Thanks.

*also if this isn't the right place to post this, I apologize in advance :)

Solution
That is all about what speedtest.net and what Origin is telling you. Speedtest.net is saying that your download speed is at 12.53 megabits (Mb/s) per second, whereas Origin is telling you that you are downloading at 2 megabytes (MB/s) per second. Remember that a bit is an eighth of a byte, so for every 8 bits it is one byte. In terms of Speedtest.net, if you are downloading at 2 megabytes per second off of Origin, you are really downloading at 16 megabits per second.

As for the shitty download speeeds off of Origin for battelfield 4, I am experiencing the same shit. I live over in New Zealand and to my knowledge there aren't any Origin servers close by. I am getting 250 kilobytes (KB/s) where since my internet speed gets 95 megabits...

Thank you works for me! UK

I found this fix not sure if it works for everyone but it worked for me.
Followed the simple instructions and was downloading at 1.03mb/s.
Hope it works for you guys

Exit Origin
Create a new empty document on your desktop
Enter the following in the file:
[connection]
EnvironmentName=production

[Feature]
CdnOverride=akamai

Save the file as EACore.ini
Now start Origin. Upon start you will be asked if you want to import the file you just created on your desktop. Press Yes. This will overwrite your old config-file.
Information The EACore.ini file is deleted from your desktop as soon as you import it.
If you ever want to leave R&D mode you need to go to the location where Origin is installed and delete the EACore.ini file found there

Thank you so much

THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! THIS IS 2 LEGIT TO QUIT!

Thanks from Brazil.

Thank you. That worked. Went from about ~1 MB/s to ~3,71 MB/s
- from Denmark.

For me it takes like two hours for each game on steam. how do you make your games download fast on steam?

Didn't work for me 🙁 Mine did the same old, when I start the download again from re-opening Origin, it started on 1MB/s went up to like 1.2MB/s and then fell down to 250kb/s and stayed around that area, happens every time

I must be the only lucky guy then..
I have a 100mbit down (12,5MB), and 10mbit up (1,25MB) connection. On speedtest I usually get around 90-93 (11,5MB) down and 16-17 up (2MB).
Today I was downloading titan fall beta to try it out, and somehow I reached 73MB/s (584mbit). I was only able to print screen it when it was at 60 something.
It took me less than 10 minutes to download a 12,4GB game!

I already knew this trick, didn't helped much in BF3 or BF4 download because I was already getting 2.5 mb/s. But while downloading BF4 DLCs I was getting 190 kb/s ._. but the trick helped increase my speed to 800 kb/s... By the ways, I am from India; find you on the Battlefield. 😀

THat document trick isnt working for me?? I ahve made a text document on the desktop put
[connection]

Thank you....have gone from between 3kb/s and 200 kb/s all the way up to......14.7 mb/s

I wish I would have found this sooner lol

When Origin downloads you have the title of the game written on the bottom of the origin window in blue. Just click on the blue text and a small window will open giving download speed.
