Hello,
Yesterday I cleaned my PC, updated the BIOS and reinstalled Windows 7 (original version) on SSD. Mobo is MSI P67A-C43. When I start up, it takes 4 minutes before running. Is there a setting in the BIOS I should change? What could be the reason? Before it worked fine! Help Help Help :)

Hi,
I got an answer from MSI technical support:

Regarding your concern, would you please clear cmos referring to the manual, then enter BIOS, press F6 to load optimized defaults, press F10 to save and reset to have a try? Thanks.

It worked! No problems anymore!
Thank you for helping!

Hi

do you mean time for windows to load to either desktop or login prompt

or time for windows to start loading (just after bios screen or message)

I presume the SSD & any HDD are running in AHCI mode (setting in BIOS ) and are connected to SATA III rather than SATA II ports (more important for SSD than HDD)

apparently motherboard has 2 x SATA III & 4 x SATA II ports

Have you installed Motherboard chipset drivers and USB 3.0 drivers?

how big is SSD ?
is it one partition for Windows?
how much free space once SP1 and all Windows updates have loaded

Hello Mike,

What happened: I had e perfect fast running PC. I had to do some video-editing but there was no space anymore on my 250Gb SSD and my 1.5Tb harddisk.
So, perfect running....
I decided to start all over. I formatted the harddisks, uploaded the latest drivers and BIOS and installed W7 (geniune) again.
During the installation, the several startups, had already problems.

When I start up, a message appears: DVI no signal, then in the low-right corner "B4" appears. This will stay for two or three minutes, then it changes into "92". After two minutes Windows is starting, but no logo appears. The logo appears after a few minutes and then everything runs fine. Although, I had some page-errors on the web. I never had that before.

As I have the latest BIOS, I think there must be setting changed (now I have the factory settings). What do you think. I'm now working at the PC and after startup, it works fine...

Regards,
Maarten

PS: SSD is 250Gb, One partition for Windows, lots of freespace on both harddisks.

Hi,

I just changed SATA to AHCI: it started faster, but Windows was not able to load (it came to the windows logo). Do I have to change the "SATA Hot plugs" also? They are now disbled.

Cheers :)

Hi

Easiest way is to re install windows on ssd with hdd disconnet
Ahci must be on
Usually this is default bios setting

Hot plug probably only useful if using esata port for external hdd

It may be possible to rip out hard disk controller driver from registry , reboot go into bios select ahci on then try booting windows

If this fails re install window

Once windows working and fully updated you can re connect hdd

Hi Mike,

Are there other BIOS settings which should be in place? When I use ahci, it is very fast, but windows starts up until the logo and then the whole system starts again and an error message occurs: Windows is not correctly closed. In the same BIOS file there are also mentioned these "hot plug" settings. They al all (6) "disabled" that's why I'm wondering. What happens when I use AHCI settings? How can I change the disk controller drive from registry?

Regards,
Maarten

The bsod from windows is due to wrong hard disk controler driver
Go back to ata compatible mode for now

Hot plug + ahci allows sata drive to be unplugged with out switching off
Usually works with external sata. (Esata) hdd

Removing hard disk controller driver from registry is difficult without utility such as fixhdc. Intended for xp but often works with win 7
Look at hirens boot cd for copy

Hi Mike,

I don't have bsod's It just looks like the PC is temporary stopped.
I went back to IDE mode, at least Windows is starting then.
I will look for fixhdc :)

Thanks,
Maarten
