Hi, I recently built my first computer and bought a 200 ft ethernet cable to connect it to our router.
This is the wire in question

My laptop was recently in the same place as my new computer, but my computer now gets 1 mbps download time. My old laptop would get around 10, so I don't know what's wrong.

Ping and lag in games is reduced from before, but it seems my download speeds are the only thing that seem to be affected by moving to wired. Thanks for the help!

Specs if it's important :

Intel i5-4460
MSI H81M-P33 MicroAtx Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Gtx 1060

Solution
There is you problem right there.

The maximum length a cat 5E or Cat 6 cable run can be is 100 M.
After the 100 meters maximum length is exceeded the transfer speed of data along the wired cable decreases greatly.
So if you have a 200 meter run of cable like you say the length of it is the cause for the bad or low transfer speeds Toto.

That rule apply s to all types of cables and connectors by the way.
As the length of the cable run increases there is more resistance created, and you suffer what we call more signal leakage.
And if the cable carries a voltage the voltage passed down the cable weakens the longer the cable is in length.
That is why all cables have a recommended set maximum cable length Toto.

Like with all cables it may...

Like with all cables it may be stated as a cat 6 cable, but the quality of the cable and the purity of the copper in percentage of each wire used in the cable plus how well it is shielded on the outer sheath of the cable.
can effect how well a signal is transmitted over a 100M cable run.
And what the end result of the speed you obtain from end to end of the connection. You can always tell the quality of the cable in most cases by how thin the outer plastic coating of the cable is, and how rigid the cable is, but also by how may tin foil layers are used, or wrapped around the twisted pair of individual wires of the cable.

Cheaper priced cat 6 cable of a long run likely has poor inner cable and shielding used to keep the costs down Toto.

Do you have any recommendations for what i should do to fix this? I'm pretty sure I could buy a shorter cable and still be able to, do you think 50 meters would fix the slow dl speed?

He said he has 200 ft, not 200 meters.
