[SOLVED] Small Business Firewall Recommendations

Hello everyone,

Looking to upgrade our firewall at my small business. Looking for firewall recommendations would prefer to see closer to that 1Gbps, would like to stay away from any subscription based firewalls if possible.

Current network configuration below:

1. 1Gbps IP Provided Fiber into office
2. Firewall - Looking To Replace old Tl-R600 (currently seeing about 250 up /down)
3. Cisco MS120-24P (ISP Managed Switch )
4. Multiple LAN Connected Devices approximately 10-20 with Wireless CISCO Wifi Access (MR33)

Look at the SuperMicro 5018D-FN8T https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/system/1u/5018/SYS-5018D-FN8T.cfm as the firewall host. You can put an SSD into it and then install pfSense for a firewall application. PfSense is opensource and a good firewall.

Do you use any of the Ipsec tunnels on the Tl-R600 or the multi-wan feature? Would you need these features on your new firewall? What is your budget?

What function do you need the firewall to do. Does it run as say a VPN server for work from home. Do you have a server that is on the internet you are try to protect. Firewalls are optimized to provide certain services many times.

Used to be business used firewall as content filters say to prevent surfing porn at work. Pretty much this is impossible no days. All traffic is encrypted so you can't see the actual data stream. Microsoft has announced support for encrypted DNS in a upcoming win10 patch so that close the last small hole that lets you monitor some traffic.
