Question Smart Failure Detected/Spin Retry Count

Hi,

I started getting a "SMART Failure Detected" error on my old Hard Drive about a week back, so I replaced it with a brand new "Seagate Barracuda Compute 2TB Sata Drive" and got the same message about a day after installing it. So I replaced it again as it was under warranty as I thought maybe they sent me a dud, same issue again.

I have checked the drive with "CrystalDiskInfo" and its says it's an error with "Spin Retry Count".

What could be wrong? It can't be that the hard drives are bad right?.. as I've tried multiple drives, including 2 brand new Seagate drives with no luck.

Anyone got any ideas.

P.S.. I am also getting a beep code, 2 beeps, pause, and 2 more beeps.

Thanks 😊

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You mean the motherboard's beep code? If so, you should specify the make and model of your motherboard. Include the BIOS version for said motherboard.

On second thoughts, please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

What could be wrong? It can't be that the hard drives are bad right?
There's a chance you were dealt with drives that came from the same batch.

I am currently running a chkdsk on my drive atm, so will let you know if that finds anything wrong and give you my psu model when that finishes, as I can't open the case atm.

Can you show a screenshot from HDtune health?

Seagate Barracudas are generally a bad choice. Those all are SMR drives with inconsistent write performance.
(except small models 1TB and below)

Oh okay. What hardrive would you suggest? I'm at a gig atm, but I'll post a photo tomorrow

I wasn't the one who requested your SMART attribute data, but I can see that the raw value is 0. This suggests to me that Seagate's SMART coding is buggy, so that in turn makes the report unreliable.

I don't know what to suggest other than to ignore the errors, or request a different model as a warranty replacement, if that is at all possible.

The raw value of the spin-up time (0 seconds) is also absurd.
