i plan on getting the aboit-vp6 mainboard as soon as its ready to ship. It's a dual p3 board. Since this is my first dual system, i have a couple questions,

-are all p3 cpus smp enabled, i'm thinking of putting in 2 p3-700s

-are the new 766 celerons smp enabled?

-will this board support 2 celerons?

thanks

I congratulate you on seeing the light. With jedi knights there are always two, an apprentice and a master. </offtopic>

Generally all P3 cpu's are SMP capable. You might like to check the intel web site for P3 "errata" (read: bugs) that might prevent certian "steppings" (read: versions) of cpus working in SMP configurations or not working with other "steppings" of cpus.

When buying a dual processor config; I, as well as anyone worth their salt, recommends buying processors of the same revision level and of the same stepping. This can be done generally achieved by purchasing the two cpus from the same supplier at the same time.

Celerons, as their boxes now are marked state "For Uni-Processor systems only".

The board would probably support celerons IF the celerons supported SMP.
