Okay. Can someone tell me basically, what is used to sniff the Facebook ID over the same network. For instance, if you are on the same network is there any app to find out which facebook profiles are logged on on the same network? I would be glad to hear you. Im in need for this! 😀 Thanks!

FYI, intercepting and reading people's electronic communications is illegal(criminal and civil) in the USA. You're moving into a grey area unless you've gotten consent of the persons you're attempting to monitor. Even just scraping Facebook IDs could be considered intercepting and eves-dropping on communications.

Penalties Under the ECPA
The ECPA created penalties for any person who intentionally:
1) intercepts, uses or discloses any wire or oral communication by using any electronic, mechanical, or other device, or

2) without authority accesses a wire or electronic communication while in storage.

What types of communications are covered?
The law applies to traditional telephone wiretaps, cordless telephone interceptions...
First problem is obtaining any data from machines other than yours. Obviously if you want data off your own machine it is pretty easy. Other machine you have to get into the data path which means the switches or routers you have must have a feature to give you copes of the data, it is very common on commercial equipment and non existent on most consumer stuff.

Still it does little good. After snowden released the documents that show the government was collecting all traffic from sites like facebook and others as it passed though the ISP the end sites went to encrypted traffic. A huge percentage of traffic including all facebook traffic is encrypted.

This means you can see which machines are on facebook but not what they are logged into or doing.

Now facebook in particular you might be able to get information because of all the tracking and spying facebook itself is doing. There are massive number of scripts running....unless you block them....that send data back to facebook even when you are on sites completely not related to facebook. If you leave a facebook id logged in there is information being sent that contains the id. They used to send it in clear text form but someone caught them and they changed it but I am sure if you really want to find it there likely is a way.

The law applies to traditional telephone wiretaps, cordless telephone interceptions, electronic messages, voicemail systems, pagers, chat logs, web-streaming video, voice over IP, and recording or videotaping private face-to-face conversations. This list is not exhaustive but provides a hint of the wide-ranging application of this law to many types of communication
