Stop looking at shitty benchmarks made to sell the new generation. The 980ti that I had was above any 980ti they mentioned in benchmarks. Non reference 980ti was 20-30% above the reference 980ti easily. My 980ti with the same settings I saw in their benchmarks, with an old 4770k at 4.0 Ghz, was very close to 1080. And way above 1070.
It was so good it was easy to sell it so I can't compare it anymore. But if you get a 1 year old 980ti non-reference card for half price, it will be better than a 1070. The only downside is 100W more power consumption.
