Dear all,

I am thinking about purchasing a BenQ XL2420Z. I only watch a couple shows and so I'll basically be using it for all different types of games. I had an Asus VS247H-P and I got two monitors in a show with dead pixels so I'm moving on.

So this new BenQ XL2420Z does 144HZ refresh rate. Does this mean, when I'm watching a TV show on HBOGO or something (or download it off iTunes), I am going to get that dread Soap Opera Effect for TV shows. I know it has something to do with motion interpolation or whatever the term is on TVs and it is the absolute WORST look in the world. Is there a fear and how can I remedy it?

Solution
Short answer: No.

Internet video is played at either 24 or 30 frames per second. Very few computer monitors (and many televisions) cannot display refresh rates below 60 at their native resolution. To fix this problem they merely display the same frame multiple times in a row to get it to total the screens refresh rate without affecting how the media you're watching looks (for the most part, there is a very, very minor issue with 24fps content on 60fps panels but it's nothing at all like the motion smoothing you're thinking of on 120hz televisions).
