okay so im still on socket 754 mobo, and i know the best processor you can get is the mobile athlon 4000, but ill probally wont go over the 3700 because i dont know how easy it will be to find the 4000 it in a year and a half. Its still another year or so before i get the 3700. Im still on the 3400. Anyway what will be the best PCI express video card i can get and it wont be to much of a bottleneck. I dont care if it is a bottleneck as long as it isnt a big bottleneck. ill be on socket 754 but with a PCI-express video card board mobo. I see they have a video card that has 512mb memory on it. The Radeon X1800XT 100134 Video Card. heres the newegg link

so will this card work good with the cpu setup. Oh and by the way when in the world did they come out with a dual core video card. Do they even make a cpu out there strong enough to take full advantage of it?

Wait... Are you saying you are going to upgrade from a 3400+ to a 3700+ in a year from now? First of all, thats almost a pointless upgrade, unless you can sell your 3400+ for a decent amount. Secondly, in a year, you wont be able to buy a new s754 3700+, if you even can now. You will be WAY better off just upgrading your comp, or getting a new motherboard/cpu combo in a year. GO ahead and get a nice video card if you want, but I say leave your cpu alone.

Skip the planned incremental jumps of 2% in performance in considering a 3700+, and save $169 (that price, $469 is outrageous for a 1800XT!) and fork out $299 for a 7900GT....

The 7900GT will last you two years I'd bet...., by then, the 2nd generation of 45 nm Conroes will be out! 🙂
(ANd you can take the 7900 with ya, as PCI-e will be here a while!)!)

Go for the video card and crank that 3400 up. This 3000+ will do 2.7 GHz but I need better ram. It can run all day @2650 but I drop it down to 2620 since there is little difference.
If that Gainward Card is a decent price that'll hold me over until the new stuff comes out in the Fall, there's no reason to build something new now, Conroe is coming, new AM2, and you know the next Nvidia card is going to be smokin'.
Go with the 7900.
