socket upgrade compatibility - i2 to i7

I am looking to upgrade an older machine (Dell Optiplex 960) with parts from a broken screen laptop (HP dv6 7136nr) for gaming purposes.

Is it possible to upgrade the Intel Core2 Quad Q9600 to an Intel Core i7-2620M that has a different socket?

no. different sockets means different pin layout means they don't even fit and you'll probably destroy the cpu and the mb if you try.
